Why, it's the bald eagle! 🦅

While not truly bald, the bald eagle's head of brilliant white feathers creates a strong contrast to their chocolate brown body, earning them their unique name.

While these birds are skilled fishers with massive talons perfect for snatching fish from the water, they can be bullies! Bald eagles have been notorious for stalking and harassing fellow fishing birds, the osprey, into stealing their catch! 🐟

While not the friendliest to other birds, bald eagles have a romantic heart. If their nesting location serves them well, couples will continue to renovate and expand their nest year after year! 🪹🦅🦅

Next time you are out in the forest or by the lake, keep an eye out for these striking birds!

Why it is the great white trillium! 🌱

Although Ontario shares space with five native species of trillium, the most commonly known is Ontario's official flower, the great white trillium. Instantly identifiable by its iconic three bright white petals, and delicate yellow center, the great white trillium is a forest star! ✨

Catch them on a brisk Spring hike blooming from late April into May, they'll be hard to miss! If you're lucky, you might even catch a white tailed deer chowing down on the flowers. In some studies, white tailed deer populations can even be estimated through how many trillium they have nibbled down. 🦌

Though the trillium is not poisonous to humans, and has been used by First Nations for their medicinal properties, we ask you leave the blooms where they are. Pictures, not picking please!

Drop‑In Camps •
Next session:
August 14th, 9am to 1pm

Ages 5-12
Pay what you can.
Join us for a day of wild play, muddy hands, big imaginations, and nature‑based wonder. Our drop‑in camps are relaxed, welcoming, and built around the rhythms of the land — a place where kids can explore freely and feel part of something special.
We keep our groups small, so every child is seen, supported, and able to follow their curiosity.
Spots are limited, and this session will fill fast.
Reach out to reserve your child’s place in the forest.
