We're happy to announce that we recently wrapped up our second cohort of the Work Ready: Skills & Safety Program, held in collaboration with Immigrants Working Centre . All of our amazing students attended a 6-day intensive course that taught them about their workplace rights in Ontario. Topics included the Employment Standards Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, and the importance of Unionization & Collective Action at Work.

So far, over 20 students have graduated from this unique program. We're confident that all of our graduates will utilize this training to become leaders in their workplaces, advocating for decent and fair work!

This program is generously supported by the The Law Foundation of Ontarioand the Hamilton Community Foundation .

Did you know that nearly half of working Canadians say their job is the most stressful part of their daily lives? 7 in 10 workers are worried about the psychological health and safety of their work. Burnout, chronic stress, harassment. This isn’t normal, and it isn’t ok. Just remember: it isn’t just you, and it isn’t “just part of the job.” Canada’s unions have your back, and we’re fighting to fix things.

Join us on April 28th as we mourn for the dead and fight for the living.

Swipe to learn about ESA claims in Hamilton - Grimsby - Burlington!

Recently, we partnered with McMaster Research Shop to investigate ESA claims in our region.

Here are some interesting findings:

- 1561 workers filed ESA claims from 2022-2025
- Over 25% of contraventions occurred in the Food and Accomodation Services industry
- Most violations included Payment of Wages, Termination Pay, and Vacation Pay/Vacation Time

The ESA is a vital piece of legislation in Ontario and this data provides us with valuable insight into the working conditions throughout the province, and where our work should be focused.

Thank you to the team at the McMaster Research Shop for all of your amazing work on this project. Hamilton non-profits are lucky to have this resource available!

Workers are too often navigating unfair systems with limited information. Our Know Your Rights at Work seminars offer clear, rights-based education rooted in dignity and collective power. Solidarity Place is seeking community service providers, grassroots organizations, and other groups to help empower workers by providing the knowledge, resources, and support they need to advocate for greater dignity and respect in their workplaces.

Our workshops focus on informing workers about their legal rights under the Employment Standards Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WSIB and other work-related matters. We cover topics such as wage entitlements, leaves of absence, accessing government benefits, and identifying discrimination in the workplace. The workshop sessions are practical, accessible, and can be tailored to any group.

Contact us today to book a workshop or learn more about our program offerings!
