This needs to happen here too! Be safe out there during this heat wave!

United Scenic Artists, Local USA 829, IATSE commends Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani for taking swift action to protect workers during this extreme heat emergency. In particular, we strongly support Executive Order No. 17, which establishes worker heat safety as a core public responsibility and directs City agencies to develop enforceable guidance, protections, and coordination mechanisms for both indoor and outdoor workers across all sectors.

Mayor Mamdani's Executive Order No. 17 recognizes what workers already know: extreme heat is a deadly workplace hazard and must be treated with the same urgency and weight as other workplace dangers. City agencies are now directed to build coordinated heat safety standards and explicitly extend protections to all workers—including gig workers, day laborers, and construction workers—beginning to shift responsibility onto employers and public systems that have long failed to keep pace with soaring temperatures. Mayor Mamdani's Beat the Heat initiative, alongside his continued focus on strengthening worker protections and advancing workplace safety standards, demonstrates a clear commitment to protecting working New Yorkers.

A beautiful set of stamps for Pride Month.

Canada Post has issued a stamp collection titled "Places of Pride", which features iconic q***r/trans landmarks across Canada. The bottom right one is of Halifax's "The Turret".

Known for decades as a home for artists, filmmakers, musicians, and q***r and trans communities, the Turret has long been part of Halifax’s creative and LGBTQ+ history. After the building was shut down and left vacant, IATSE Pride Committee member Jake Ivany served on the board of the preservation society working to restore it as an accessible, sustainable arts hub and q***r space.

You can check out more info about "The Turret" and other Canadian q***r spaces here: https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/blogs/personal/perspectives/places-of-pride-2026/

On International Trans Day of Visibility, we celebrate trans, nonbinary and gender-diverse people while recognizing that trans rights are under attack across the U.S. and Canada. Visibility matters, but so does action. Learn more, speak up, challenge misinformation and support the organizations fighting for trans rights in your community. If you know of organizations, resources or actions others can take, share them in the comments.

Beautiful work being done by our members at Hamilton Scenic Specialty Inc.!

Our scenic team putting finishing touches on a show deck heading to Toronto soon . The deck is to look like an old rehearsal floor complete with spike tape marks and lots of wear and tear . The funny thing is it doesn’t look all that different from our fit up deck directly underneath it . It’s very “ Paul Klee “ looking actually….. I don’t think we charged enough !
