A safe, caring, and healing community for people affected by cancer.

4-day retreats, 3-day retreats, a local quilt initiative, and online programs for people living with cancer and their support person. Located in the Haliburton Highlands on a beautiful property surrounded by forests and ponds, we provide a variety of in-person and online retreats and programs for those with cancer and their loved ones. The retreats offer rest and renewal, companionship, and an introduction to practices that help soothe, strengthen and restore the body, mind and soul in the midst of a cancer experience. Time in nature, restorative yoga, massage, expressive arts, delicious and nutritious food, music, and group conversation are all elements of what make our retreats unique and transformative. We offer these supports at no cost to participants, recognizing there are already many increased expenses for individuals and families facing cancer.

Many hands and hearts help create every Warm Hugs quilt.

Warm Hugs From the Highlands is a volunteer-led initiative that provides handmade quilts to people living with cancer in the Haliburton Highlands.

Each quilt is the same size, but no two are ever the same. Every one is a unique combination of fabric, colour, and pattern. From cutting and sewing to the final stitching and finishing touches, every step is shared.

We are grateful for every person who volunteers and helps to make Warm Hugs possible 💚

The next Warm Hugs volunteer Sewing Day is Saturday, November 21 at Brooksong. If you're interested in joining, please send us a message! No experience is required.

Our next Compassionate Hearts gathering will explore our relationship with grief.

Using simple, sometimes unexpected art materials, we’ll explore grief in our own ways, making space for reflection, expression, connection, and perhaps even moments of joy.

Facilitated by Fay Wilkinson and Brian Nichols, this gathering is open to anyone living with or beyond cancer, as well as those caring for someone with cancer. No art experience is needed, just come as you are.

Knead to Nurture: A Day of Connection, Creativity & Care 🍂

Sometimes, healing experiences can include slowing down, working with our hands and sharing a meal.

Join us at Brooksong for a gentle, restorative day for people living with or beyond cancer, and those who care for them.

Together, we'll make fresh pasta, share a nourishing meal, walk in the woods, enjoy meaningful conversation and close with a restorative sound bath.

Led by Daniela Pagliaro of OG Cucina and Melissa Tong of NUWA Health and Wellness, this special gathering brings together the healing power of food, mindfulness, creativity and connection. Daniela is founder of OG Cucina and known locally as the “Pasta Lady.” Melissa is a local experiential educator, certified sound practitioner and trauma-informed holistic wellness coach, who will help facilitate the day, including offering a restorative sound experience.

Over 16 weeks this summer, Claire brought tremendous energy, creativity and care to Brooksong as the Coordinator for Brooksong’s Summer Fundriaser.

She connected with the wonderful peer-to-peer fundraisers and donors, helped organize events, reached out into the community, created and shared stories, pitched in wherever she was needed, and helped keep a very busy summer moving forward.

We are better for having her work with us!

Claire, thank you for everything you have given to Brooksong this summer. We’re cheering you on as you head into whatever comes next. 💚

Roger Danilko generously donated firewood for our retreat campfires, and his family, together with Alan, all amazing Brooksong volunteers, spent time getting it all piled and ready for us.

Campfires are a simple but meaningful part of life at Brooksong. They offer a place for retreat participants to gather at the end of the day — to sit by the water, talk, laugh, reflect, or simply be together around the warmth of a fire.

There are so many acts of generosity that help create the Brooksong experience, including ones that happen quietly behind the scenes. Thank you, Roger, and to your family and Alan, for helping keep the fires burning at Brooksong. ❤️

Cancer research and treatment have made extraordinary advances. Treating cancer is not the same as caring for the whole person whose life has been changed by it.

A diagnosis can reach into every part of life: how people feel in their bodies, how they see themselves and their future, their relationships, their work and family life, and their sense of safety and belonging in the world.

Alongside the physical effects of cancer and its treatment, people may experience fear, anxiety, depression, isolation and uncertainty. While medical appointments necessarily focus on diagnosis, treatment and outcomes, there is often much less support for navigating everything that happens around and beyond them.

This is the space whole-person cancer support seeks to address, not instead of excellent medical care, but alongside it.
