Liuna Local 493

Liuna Local 493 Founded in 1955 LIUNA Local 493 to represent workers in Sudbury, North Bay, Timmins and surrounding area.

Currently, Local 493 represents over 850 members in construction and industrial units. All union employers must hire their employees through Local 493 for work covered by their collective agreements. Members are dispatched by the union to signatory contractors based on their standing on the out of work list or their qualifications. The Local Union collectively bargains with contractors and or asso

ciations which in turn provide health, welfare and pension coverage. Training is also a key factor to Local 493, so members have the necessary skills and qualifications when dispatched to signatory contractors. The local union is also heavily involved in organizing non-union contractors.
