2026 THEME FOR BEREA & ZION-FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT - Kindness 1
Do you remember the “random acts of kindness” movement about 15 years ago? It was the world’s attempt to bring more kindness into a mean and increasingly violent world. I think it helped in some ways, but eventually, most people tired of it. Kindness, compassion, and mercy are central to God’s character and, as we will see, His kindness toward us is anything but random. The world view of God as the angry Judge does a serious injustice to God’s true nature. Not only does God love us, but He is the very source and complete embodiment of love. No one in the world – Christian or otherwise – could love if it weren’t for God. He wants love to be the only relationship between us and Him, and between us and all humanity. But sin has spoiled the relationship and He judges sin because He is a just God. In kindness, borne out of His love for us, He has repaired the sin-damaged relationship between Himself and mankind. We reflect that love when we act in kindness toward others. True Godly kindness is borne out of love, and both are fruit of the Holy Spirit.

As We Gather,
Polls tell us that many of us live in fear and struggle with depression. Jesus calls us not to be afraid - not because we have no enemies but because He is stronger than them all. God knows the score - from every bird that falls from the sky to every hair on our head. He has invested His love and mercy in us in Christ and will not turn away from us. This promise is sure. Because of this, we can surrender our fears of being known as His children. Everyone who confesses Him on earth, Christ will confess him before His Father in heaven. From this promise comes the strength to live the new life given to us in our Baptism and to make known what Christ has done by His death and resurrection-for us and for all the world. We are called to judge not by the times but by the promises of God. Neither will He disappoint us nor will He forsake us.

Votes for Lutheran Church–Canada’s three Regional Pastors were held during the morning of June 13. Rev. Marvin Bublitz was reelected as East Regional Pastor. Newly elected were Rev. Arron Gust as Central Regional Pastor and Rev. Michael Schutz as West Regional Pastor.
