What’s Up for June 2026
A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT DIANE:
The Ladies Auxiliary members to Branch 109 Goderich are proud to celebrate their 79 th
Anniversary on Tuesday June 9 th , 2026 at our General Meeting. To celebrate this
special occasion, all members are invited to attend the Pot Luck at 6pm, prior to the 7
o’clock meeting. Now I know that these remarkable ladies can cook, but you won’t
believe what they bring to the table at a pot luck! If we didn’t have to stop for a meeting,
the meal would probably go on to midnight!!!!
The Ladies Auxiliary now has a total of 100 members with 4 new comrades to be
initiated at our June General Meeting. Sadly, we commemorated the passing of our
beloved member, Comrade Muriel McGuire. Servant of God, Well Done, Thy Glorious
warfares past, The battles fought, the victory won, And thou are crowned at last.
We continue to assist the branch with financial contributions and help with fundraising
meals and we were pleased to serve lunch to many service members and public who
attended the Battle of the Atlantic ceremony May 2nd. The Ladies Auxiliary is honored
to be invited each year to the 48 th Annual Ceremonial Review of 532 Maitland Royal
Canadian Air Cadet Squadron and present awards.
The second Wednesday of every month we serve a delicious breakfast to about 28
members of Local 1863 Brothers and Sisters, Retirees Club Members and
Champion/Volvo Past Management and some of their wives.
Our team of ladies who co-ordinate the Celebration of Life or Funeral lunches have also
been very busy these past few months and will continue to serve throughout the
summer.
Catering to personal or community groups is a unique and renowned service the Ladies
Auxiliary is proud to offer year round. Just phone the branch to book your event and
they will contact me, the LA president, to arrange all meal details with you. We already
have a Christmas dinner booked in November.
Hot Dog Day will be held at Zehrs on Saturday July 18 th to fundraise for our Sporting
events. A second Hot Dog Fundraiser will be at Zehrs on Friday August 21 st and
Saturday August 22 nd . You just can’t resist BBQ hot dogs and fried onions!!!
We have our General meetings the second Tuesday of every month at 7pm except for
July and August. Our Executive meetings are the last Tuesday of every month at 5pm
and our newly elected Executive and Officers were installed at our May meeting.

This weekend the Provincial Ladies Auxiliary Convention is taking place in Bracebridge.

We are sending 4 delegates to to represent the Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 109. We wish our Comrades a safe journey, lots of networking, laughs, good food and memories.

We look forward to hearing any new information and updates at our next General meeting.

Last evening, Past President Ann attended the 48th Annual 532 Maitland Air Squadron Review.
The Ladies Auxiliary are proud to be able to contribute to assisting this wonderful group of young men and women.
An interesting fact was told to the crowd of proud parents, grandparents, siblings and organizations that it was 50 years ago this year that women were allowed to join the cadet program.
The program is for youth ages 12-18 and has an amazing staff of leaders.

Last Saturday , our Ladies Auxiliary and Sports Officer Lamb, hosted the Zone C-1 Euchre tournament.

There were 8 tables with 5 coming from our own Ladies Auxiliary. Thank you to our card playing and fun loving comrades who spent time on a Saturday to share comradeship. Teams were also present from Ripley, Wingham and Blyth.

I have it on good authority, not through the grape vine, that 3 of our Goderich teams placed not just FIRST, not just SECOND but all THREE of the top finishers. Well done ladies.

When I popped in to see the activity on Saturday morning, there was an abundance of food (THANK YOU to all the teams who provided food and raffle donations!), lots of chatter, not a sad face in the house and most of all, lots of laughter!! These are the kind of events that we love to host.

Well done everyone!!!

The Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 109 held our May Executive Meeting last evening with 15 women present.

Here is a synopsis of what is happening with more information to come.

1. Comrade Bev Yeo, Bursary Liaison, Comrade Cheryl Johnston, Liaison to Branch 109 and Comrade Teri Lamb, Sports Officer were installed. Thank you for stepping up ladies as your service does not go unnoticed.

2. Our next General Meeting is on June 9th, 2026. WE WILL BE CELEBRATING OUR 79TH ANNIVERSARY that evening with a potluck meal starting at 6 PM.

3. We have expanded our Hot Dog Days by adding another day!! Stay tuned for updates to mark your calendars.

4. Honours and Awards are being held once again on October 2nd, 2026 at 7 PM in the Jubilee Room.

More information to come on how were are supporting the community that we serve by giving back.

The Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 109 were very pleased to make our donation to the Goderich Memorial Community Centre committee member Matt Hoy. Our donation is giving back to the community that we serve. We are pleased to be involved in the rebuilding, recreating and rebranding of the building and look forward to what is in store.
Thank you to the organizations that have also stepped forward to support this initiative.

Last evening the Ladies Auxiliary held the monthly general meeting. We had significant number attend and we got right down to business.
We opened our meeting with Legion Liaison Matt sharing some information and posing a request to the auxiliary of which we shall discuss at a later date.
Here is a snippit of what was discussed:
1. A report was brought forward by President Diane regarding the Zone Convention that was held in May. We learned that there are 35 Zones that have approximately 200 Ladies Auxiliary. The number of auxiliaries still functioning today have decreased significantly over the past few years.
2. We passed a monetary motion regarding expenses for the 5 Comrades who will be attending Provincial Convention the end of this month.
3. We voted and accepted unanimously 4 new members who will be introduced at our June meeting and installed. Our membership is growing. We draped the Charter in memory/honour of our most recent loss of Comrade Mureil McGuire.
4. We had an update on all the sports activities that will be happening over the next few months!
5. We have a list of bookings and are excited that we will be having 2 Hot Dog Days at Zehrs this summe so stay tuned. I mean, the small of fried onions makes your mouth water!!!
6. Next year, the Ladies Auxiliary will be turning 80 years young!! We are putting together a committee to organize a grand celebration. Reach out if this is something that you are interested in. We are also going to be hosting a lunch during the Town of Goderich Bicentennial weekend and are looking for people to assist.
7. We are pleased to be attending the 48th Annual Ceremonial Review of 532 Maitland Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in a few weeks. It is a pleasure to watch these young men and women progress in a year.
8. We installed our new Executive at the end of our meeting as well. Congrats to all who stepped up to serve. (side note: Correspondence/Social Media Officer Liz Petrie does not have a photo as she was busy taking all the others! 😄)

Our next executive meeting is Tuesday May 26 at 5 PM Jubilee Room.

Mark your calendars also as our June 9th General Meeting will be a POTLUCK meal prior to the meeting to celebrate our 79th year as an organization. More information to come!!

Also stay tuned for an update on the donation we made at our meeting as we would like the organization that received the donation to make the announcement first.
