⚓️ Summer Adventures: Texada Island! 🌊🏝️

What a summer it’s been for Navy League Cadet Corps 204 Kenneth Grant! Our Cadets have already enjoyed a couple of fantastic adventures, including a memorable trip to Texada Island in July, thanks to an invitation from the Texada Legion Branch 232-Admin Tyrone Bannick.

One of the highlights was visiting the Legion’s Naval Museum, which features an incredible collection of uniforms, memorabilia and artifacts donated by veterans. Our Cadets had the opportunity to see and even handle some of these historic items while learning from some very knowledgeable veterans who shared the stories behind the collection.

The Cadets also got hands-on with history, helping put together a display of cap tallies from ships of the past. We’ll be sure to share a photo of the completed display once it’s finished! ⚓️

And the adventure didn’t stop there! The group toured a gold mine, learning how equipment separates different minerals from the rock. The Cadets even had the chance to search for mineral specimens themselves and take some rocks home to show their families. 🪨✨

We also toured a rock quarry and learned how the rock is extracted, along with visiting the Texada Island Museum, an amazing collection of local history brought together and maintained by dedicated volunteers.

A huge THANK YOU to Mr. Dave McLennan and the executive of Legion Branch 232 in Van Anda for their incredible hospitality. The Legion generously welcomed our Cadets for two nights and treated us to a pizza dinner, always a hit with the Cadets! 🍕

It was an unforgettable trip filled with history, adventure, learning and plenty of great memories from the road and ferry ride to Powell River and all the amazing sights on Texada Island.

We’re so fortunate to have opportunities like this to get our Cadets out exploring, learning and experiencing new things. ❤️⚓️

We hope everyone is having a wonderful summer! We’re looking forward to seeing our Cadets again in September and welcoming new members to the Corps!

Adventure awaits! ⚓️

RCMSAR volunteers wear a PFD every time they are on the water—not because they expect something to go wrong, but because they know it can.

Being prepared starts before you leave the dock. A fall, collision, mechanical problem or sudden change in conditions can happen before there is time to prepare.

So, why aren’t you wearing it?

Wear your lifejacket or PFD. Every time.

🌊 What a busy summer we’re having! ⚓️

Our Cadets have been keeping busy this summer with a couple of exciting adventures, including this fantastic day up at the Skookumchuk Narrows!

The group was invited to tour the Malibu Princess, which docks near the Narrows. The invitation came through our Officer, SLt. (NL) Greig Williams, who is a mate aboard the ship, along with his wife, Maria. The Cadets had the opportunity to tour the vessel before heading out to tackle the trail.

And while one of our officers didn’t quite make it to the end of the trail 😉, we’re proud to say that all of the Cadets who took on the challenge completed it! 🎉

It was a fantastic day of adventure, teamwork and exploring, although, if you ask most of the Cadets, the real highlight may have been the Slurpees at the Petro-Canada on the way home! 😂🥤

We’re having a wonderful summer and hope you are too! ☀️

We’re looking forward to seeing all of our Cadets again in September and welcoming new members to the group. If you’ve been thinking about joining, September is a great time to come check us out!

⚓️ Adventure, friendship and new experiences await!
