In this period when the Canadian monarchy is the subject of vigorous debate in Quebec, let us remember its role in the evolution of our institutions and in preserving traditions that continue to shape our democracy. A reflection worth revisiting: an article by the National Chancellor of the Crown Society of Canada, published last year but still highly relevant today.

The Crown Society of Canada welcomes the democratic decision expressed by Albertans to remain within Canada.

This choice reflects a desire to build our country through unity rather than division. In a world marked by uncertainty, Canada remains a strong, stable, and admired nation, thanks in large part to the institutions that have ensured its continuity and prosperity across generations.

We are encouraged to see a majority of citizens reaffirm their commitment to the Canadian federation and to the Crown 👑, a cornerstone of our constitutional democracy. More than ever, we must continue working together to build a united, strong, and confident Canada for the future.

The Crown Society of Canada welcomes the visit of the Duke of Edinburgh to Toronto at the start of October, as he meets with young people and educators involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.

We are especially pleased, as this visit is connected to the Ontario Ministry of Education’s decision to expand access to the Award across schools in the province — a major step forward for youth development in Canada.

As an official partner of the Award, our organization applauds this decision, which will allow even more young people to benefit from a formative, civic‑minded, and inspiring experience.

The Crown Society of Canada wishes to express its profound dismay at the recent position taken by the Parti Québécois and its leader, who have announced their intention to abolish the monarchy in Québec and eliminate the office of the Lieutenant Governor.

This political orientation places at risk an institution that has embodied the stability, democratic continuity, and constitutional identity of Canada for more than 150 years.

As an organization dedicated to promoting understanding of the Canadian monarchy, the Society reaffirms its unwavering commitment:

-we will remain the defending Society of the Canadian monarchy,
-of its history,
-of its symbols,
-and of its essential role in the civic life of our country.

The Crown is part of our shared heritage. We will continue to protect it, explain it, and help it shine — now more than ever.
