NEW FREE TRAINING: Based on a new national report, learn what drives in 🇨🇦 and how services, programs, and policies can better support .

This new training helps learners understand how colonial policies, systemic barriers, displacement, and disconnection from land, culture, family, and community shape Indigenous homelessness today, and consider pathways for prevention grounded in Indigenous knowledge, rights, leadership, self-determination, and wholistic, culturally based approaches.

It looks like phone calls, spreadsheets, grant applications, coffee with a partner agency, and showing up again the next day. Behind every statistic is a team doing the unglamorous work of building something better for Edson. Thank you for supporting the people who do this work every day.

It's easy to assume homelessness drives crime. The numbers tell a different story: overall Criminal Code offences in Edson fell 21 percent last year, with break-ins down nearly half. Real solutions start with real facts, and the Task Force is committed to both.

Ending homelessness is not one organization's job. It takes coordination between Edson RCMP, Town of Edson Fire Services, EMS, and the Task Force, all working from the same table. When our systems talk to each other, our whole community is stronger and safer.

When we asked our community directly, 59.7 percent of respondents said they support transitional or supportive housing in Edson. Change happens when a community chooses each other. Thank you to everyone who has already said yes to a safer, more stable Edson.

A stable address makes it possible to keep a job, see a doctor, reconnect with family, and plan for tomorrow. That is why the Task Force treats housing as the starting point, not the last step. When someone has a foundation, everything else becomes possible.

After a feasibility study years in the making, plans are moving forward for 32 to 40 transitional and supportive housing units right here in Edson, with rent capped at 30 percent of income. In Edson and Yellowhead County, 308 people are currently living in housing instability, and 101 of them are one crisis away from losing their home entirely. These are our neighbours, coworkers, and friends. The Edson & District Homelessness Task Force works every day to make sure a single crisis doesn't become a permanent loss of home.
