ACT Alberta

ACT has been steadfast in our vision of an Alberta free of human trafficking.

We provide essential services to victims and survivors, empower and mobilize our communities, and partner with organizations across the country to raise awareness. ACT Alberta, the Action Coalition on Human Trafficking, is a coalition of government agencies, non-governmental organizations, survivors of human trafficking and volunteers concerned with identifying and responding to human trafficking in Alberta.

What an INCREDIBLE day at Ride for Refuge!

A massive thank you to everyone who walked, rode, fundraised, volunteered, donated, and cheered us on! Together we raised over $4000 to support victims and survivors of human trafficking across the province 🎉

A special shout-out to our wonderful volunteer crew from the ISACA Calgary Chapter, thank you for bringing your energy and enthusiasm to our event day. We couldn't have done it without you!

We are so grateful for every person who chose to spend their Saturday with us. Thank you for standing with survivors and helping make a difference in our communities 💙

Today, on the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG), we hold space for the lives lost and for the families still searching for answers.

Behind every statistic is a daughter, a sister, an auntie, a mother, a friend. Between 2001 and 2015, Indigenous women were nearly six times more likely to be victims of homicide than non-Indigenous women (Statistics Canada). This violence is rooted in systemic discrimination, colonialism, and inequity, and its impacts continue to be felt by Indigenous families and communities across Canada.

We remember those who were taken too soon. We stand with Survivors, families, and communities as they call for justice and lasting change.

What you can do, today and beyond:
🧡 Join a Sisters in Spirit vigil, in person or online
🧡 Share resources and amplify Indigenous voices
🧡 Read the MMIWG Final Report: www.mmiwg-ffada.ca/final-report/
🧡 Learn and Reflect: www.weareact.org/learning-reflection-resources

Today, and every day, reconciliation calls us to listen, learn, and act.

We honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities whose lives continue to be impacted by this history.

While September 30th is an important day of remembrance and reflection, reconciliation is a continuous journey. It calls on each of us to learn from the past, listen to and amplify Indigenous voices, and contribute to meaningful change throughout the year.

Every Child Matters. 🧡

There's still time to sponsor the RIDE! 🚲

Ride for Refuge is happening next weekend, and we're still looking for a few community partners to help us make this year's event a success. Sponsorship helps offset event costs, allowing more funds to directly support ACT's work with victims and survivors of human trafficking across Alberta.

By sponsoring Ride for Refuge, your business will join a growing community of organizations taking a stand against human trafficking and helping create pathways to safety for survivors.

Join us in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and building safer communities. Send us a message or email [email protected] to learn more!

Ride for Refuge is just around the corner, but there's still plenty of time to reach your fundraising goal! 🚴

The hardest part of fundraising is often simply getting started. Don't underestimate the power of a few personal conversations or messages. Every donation begins with an ask, and every ask helps bring us one step closer to supporting victims and survivors of human trafficking across Alberta 💙

Can't join us for Ride for Refuge? You can still make a difference!

Human trafficking is happening right here in Alberta, in both urban and rural communities. Every dollar raised through Ride for Refuge helps ACT support victims and survivors of human trafficking while funding education and awareness programs that help prevent exploitation before it happens.

If you're unable to walk, ride, or volunteer, consider making a donation instead.

Truth and Reconciliation is more than a day of recognition. It is an ongoing commitment to learning, listening, reflecting, and taking meaningful action.

On September 30th, we honour Survivors, remember those who never returned home, and acknowledge the lasting impacts of residential schools. We also recognize our shared responsibility to continue advancing reconciliation every day.

Through kiskêyitamowin, which in Cree means knowledge, iitomanistsikakiimasin, which in Blackfoot means respect, and akihnew abi, which in Stoney means connection, we strengthen our understanding of the past, deepen our relationships, and contribute to a more inclusive future.

Leading up to September 30, we invite you to participate in activities that foster knowledge, respect, connection, and reflection. Our Indigenous Relations team has curated a list of resources to help guide that learning if you're looking for a place to get started 👇
