Edmonton city council has approved the rezoning application for CarePoint South.

That’s an important milestone. Now comes the work of securing capital funding and permits, completing renovations, and preparing the shelter to operate well.

Our goal is to open the additional 120 spaces as soon as possible next winter.

Edmonton city council has approved the rezoning of the site for Hope Mission’s CarePoint South, a new 120-bed shelter in the Girard Industrial area.

Shelter demand rose by 23% this past winter alone, and this is an important step toward having more shelter capacity ready for next winter.

Every step taken on September 19 helps someone in Edmonton find a warm bed, a hot meal, and a way forward.

Join the second annual BrookfieldYEG Harvest Run and choose from three routes: 10km, 5km, or 1km fun run.

Last year, their community came together and raised $85,000 for Hope Mission. This year, they are aiming for $110,000. Come and be a part of something special!

Can't make it out that morning? You can still be part of it. Donate directly or ask about sponsoring the run as a business or family. Every contribution helps Hope Mission care for our vulnerable neighbours.

Hope Mission is currently in need of everyday essentials to help us provide practical support to people in our community.

Right now, we’re looking for:

• Deodorant
• Hoodies
• Jeans
• Lip balm
• Nail clippers
• Razors
• Socks
• Sweatpants
• Underwear

New items are always welcome, and clean, gently used clothing is also appreciated.

A shelter is more than a place to sleep.

Hope Mission’s proposed CarePoint South shelter is designed to give guests access to a range of supports under one roof—from meals and health services to housing support and recovery connections.

Plans include:
• 120 semi-private beds, available 24/7
• Day space with daily meals
• On-site housing support and social work
• Health services and a medical clinic
• Recovery coaching and referrals
• Transportation and outreach through the Hope Mission Rescue Van
• Shuttle service to other Hope Mission sites and community supports
• A 24/7 phone line for neighbouring businesses to share concerns

“If the model is to shift to smaller, more specialized shelters spread around the city, with services attached, then we need to push ahead,” writes Edmonton Journal columnist Keith Gerein.

Hope Mission is seeking rezoning to renovate an existing facility on Girard Road into this year-round emergency shelter.

“I was scared to ask for help.”

Willinda was struggling to find stable housing for herself and her six children. With support from Hope Mission’s family housing program, they found a permanent home.

Her family is one of 53 housed through the program in 2025.

“You have to be willing to start over.”

After five years of homelessness and addiction, Ashley is now sober, safely housed, and raising her young son.

Through Ashley's determination and with ongoing care from Hope Mission follow-up support worker Cindy Smith, Ashley has built a new life and wants others to know that recovery is possible.
