Cans for Cause

Cans for Cause Hi! We’re Emery & Sophia. We’re siblings collecting empties to give back to Roger Neilson Children's Hospice in Ottawa.

This is our way of giving back to an organization that supported our family during a difficult time and to honour our brother Emil.

‼️ Cans for Cause Update ‼️

As summer begins to wrap up and our kids head back to school, so does our Cans for Cause collection!

If you’ve been collecting cans, bottles, or donations, now is the time to drop them off so we can add them to our grand total. We cannot wait to share the final number with all of you and celebrate just how much we were able to accomplish together.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Oma and Papa for their incredible support, and to our amazing community for showing up, pitching in, and helping turn this goal into something truly meaningful.

What started with a simple idea became something so much bigger because of all of you. Every can, every contribution, and every act of kindness made a difference.

Together, we made an impact. Together, we made this happen. ❤️

Stay tuned for our grand total — we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

If you’ve got empty cans and bottles you would like to donate to a great cause, drop them off at Roy’s Chevrolet Buick GMC in Green Valley!

Roy’s has set up a Cans for Cars collection truck, and all proceeds from the returned empties will be donated to the Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice.

While you’re there, feel free to check out some new wheels too! Every donation, big or small, helps support an amazing local cause.

At just 14 months old, Emil passed away peacefully at Roger Neilson Children's Hospice

As heartbreaking as that time was, the hospice gave our family something we desperately needed: the chance to simply be a family again.

For the first time in months, we could be together under one roof. We shared meals. We watched movies. We celebrated what would become our final Christmas with Emil in the middle of August. We were simply a family, focused on loving Emil and creating as many memories as we could.

When you’re living through something like that, you realize a place like Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice isn’t just a building. It’s comfort. It’s compassion. It’s a place where families are given the priceless gift of time together, when time is the one thing they can’t have more of.

So every time you donate an empty can, know that it’s not just recycling.

It becomes hope.

It becomes support for another family.

It helps create more moments together.

And that’s something incredibly powerful.

Thank you for your support!

Young siblings Emery and Sophia Lascelle are continuing their Cans for Cause fundraiser in memory of their brother Emil, who died from Alpers syndrome, a rare mitochondrial disease. The campaign raises money for the Roger Neilson Children's Hospice, which supported their family during Emil's illness. After collecting more than $6,000 in their first year, the pair is aiming to surpass $10,000 in 2026, with a recent bottle drive in Cornwall adding about $1,000 to the total.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who volunteered with Cans for Cause at DevFest. We truly couldn’t have done it without you!

Our 50/50 raffle was an incredible success! Together, we raised over $4,000 for Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice, while another $4,000+ went home with one very lucky winner. A true win-win!

A special thank you to DevFest for welcoming us and for their generous donation. We are incredibly grateful to be part of such a caring and supportive community. The enthusiasm of everyone who stopped by our booth, took part in the raffle, and cheered us on helped make the day a tremendous success.

If you missed DevFest this year, you missed an amazing day! There were fantastic live bands, delicious food, and plenty of shady spots to sit back, relax, and enjoy all the incredible entertainment.

🎉 Can For Cause is Heading to Dev Fest This Saturday! 🎉

Be sure to stop by our tent and say hello!

We’ll have an incredible raffle basket featuring generous donations from many wonderful local businesses in our community, as well as a 50/50 draw supported by the Ottawa Senators Foundation.

Every donation and every ticket purchased will go directly toward supporting our cause. We are incredibly grateful to Devfest for collaborating with Can For Cause and helping us move closer to our goal.

This year, all proceeds will be donated to Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice, an organization that holds a very special place in our hearts. We are fundraising in memory of our late brother, Emil, whose journey continues to inspire our commitment to giving back and supporting families in need.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated, supported, and helped make this possible. Together, we can make a meaningful difference.

We look forward to seeing you at Dev Fest! 💙
