Chance's Rescue

Chance's Rescue We are an Ontario-based, non-profit dog rescue organization (OCN #1000195704). A short time later he was euthanized. All dogs deserve a chance.

In 2019 we travelled back to NYC to meet and adopt Chance, after successfully adopting Hudson (2015) and Lola (2017). Between the time he came on our radar to the time we arrived at the shelter his status changed from adoptable to "rescue-only". We were heartbroken that he could not be saved. It is important to remember that a dog's behaviour in the shelter system does not accurately predict their

behaviour on the outside. And the fact that they are "shelter dogs" does not dictate how they will fit into a home.

This awesome boy is 12 weeks old and the final sibling waiting to find his people. To answer the inevitable question "what breed?" we really don't know for sure but his appearance indicates at least some Husky in his background. Whatever else his DNA consists of, he is young, sweet and deserving of a forever home. Given his current size, we are confident that Farley will be a large adult once fully grown.
He is a mellow guy - unless with siblings and then he becomes a rowdy player - and prefers to chill out and observe his surroundings. He can be independent and is happy to follow at his own pace. Although his energy level is not typical of Huskies, his independence and occasional stubborn streak are more in line with the breed. He can be dramatic and feisty when told he needs to follow the rules.
Farley's most recent foster home has a large male doodle and they enjoy time together. He would probably enjoy a friendly, well-balanced fur sibling. Although he has not been cat-tested recently, he did live with a cat in his first foster home and is familiar with them. He is people friendly and likes to snuggle but on his own terms. He can be grumbly when playing but also when annoyed, making it hard for younger kids to know when he's had enough playtime. For this reason he is seeking a dog experienced family in an adult home (teens in the home would be fine).
Please reach out privately by email or PM with additional questions or to request an application and meeting. A link to his adoption profile is in the comments below. SO many adoptions are the result of a share...please help us show off this baby and help him find a happy ending.

*** We are unable to travel around the province for home visits and want to remind everyone that we adopt locally, ideally within an hour or so from our Chesterville/Morewood, ON. location ***

This has been a topic of conversation over the past week and it is always something we mention in our adoption profiles as well as at pre-adoption meet & greets. We want to remind all applicants and adopters (past & present) that dog parks are not something we agree with at any age but especially for young puppies. Vets, trainers and dog behaviourists will tell you that incomplete vaccinations, parasites in soil/water, unpredictable and uncontrolled environments are dangerous. Puppies can quickly become overwhelmed and develop life-long fears or reactivity. It is just not worth the risk. Safer choices for socializing your puppy are: puppy classes, one-on-one playdates and walks that allow your puppy to watch the world and learn without forcing interactions that might have permanent consequences.

Update: we are so appreciative of the shares & support for Bailey. This morning we were notified that her family has come up with an alternate solution and she will be remaining with them. We did have a wonderful foster family set up for her and want to extend our appreciation to them for being so accomodating.

We posted this sweet face a couple of days ago, seeking a temporary foster home in the SD&G or Ottawa area. Sweet Bailey (formerly Freya) is 7 months old and seeking a soft landing spot as she acclimates to losing her home and family. We have had a few offers and they are appreciated. We are told that she loves people and other dogs but that she hasn't been exposed to children. A quiet environment is what she is used to and is the best set up for her right now. She loves the outdoors and being active. She also loves to lay at her person's feet while they work. Please share her face and reach out by email (not in the comments please) if you might be able to help this girl out while she waits for a new forever home πŸ™β€

We just had a spot open up for our meet & greets this week. Winnie is no longer available and Sloane is no longer accepting applications but if you would like to meet Farley or Roscoe, please reach out by email for an application. They would love to meet you!
Also, a reminder that organizing and coordinating meetings for these little ones is time consuming and affects their foster families as well. If you are in the process of adopting with another rescue we appreciate honesty and timely notice if you are no longer planning to keep your appointment.

Surrendered when her littermate was run over, Melo (formerly Melody) came into the care of our friends Paws To Rescue Manitoba before making her way to us. Fast forward to today and this girl is living her best life. Thank you to everyone who choses to adopt πŸ™β€οΈ
