🍎 New experiences can be scary… and unforgettable.

Whether it’s stepping onto the ice, exploring Outdoor School, or visiting a museum, Extraordinary Experiences help students discover confidence, resilience, and belonging.

In 2025, more than 14,000 Calgary Board of Education students accessed opportunities that changed how they see themselves, their community, and their futures.

A huge thank you to Suncor for supporting Calgary Board of Education students through their Energizing Youth initiative, including those who recently represented CBE in the Provincial Skills Competition! We are grateful for their partnership.

And kudos to all of the students who worked so hard to represent Calgary’s public high schools at Skills in Edmonton! ⭐️

This week, during Mental Health Week, we are recognizing the generous contribution of an individual who provided a significant gift to support Calgary Board of Education student well-being and mental health.

Margaret Cochlan was a teacher with CBE for 30 years. She was passionate about education, teaching and providing students with the encouragement to pursue post-secondary studies.

Established as a tribute to Margaret by her sister Helen, this generous gift supported professional learning for teachers, equipping them to provide mental health supports to students across the CBE.

Thank you to the Cochlan family for recognizing the crucial importance of providing mental health supports to Calgary public students.

This week is Mental Health Week.

Mood and anxiety disorders are on the rise among youth in Canada. Between 66% and 75% of mental health issues first appear before the age of 24.

In classrooms across Calgary, student well-being is at the heart of learning. Every student deserves to hear: you matter, you belong.

From sensory spaces to basic needs support, EducationMatters donors help create environments where students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

Because sometimes, the most important thing in a lunchbox isn’t the meal, it’s the note tucked inside. 😊

What’s in our lunchbox?

More than just food, EducationMatters’ lunchbox provides care, support, and the tools Calgary Board of Education students need to succeed.

This year’s EducationMatters Report to Community, Nourishing Potential, tells the stories of how, with the support of donors, we’re:
• Meeting essential needs so students can focus on learning
• Opening doors to extraordinary experiences
• Fueling pathways to future careers
• Supporting student well-being every step of the way

Because when students have what they need, there’s no limit to what they can achieve.
