🚣‍♂️🚣🚣‍♀️We need your help! 🚣‍♀️🚣🚣‍♂️
Our boat builders are stalled at $500 short of their fundraising goal to get Skera's sister ship underway. If you have the inclination to send even the cost of a cup of coffee toward the fundraising effort, you will have our deep gratitude, as every single dollar helps! If you are the type to save your cans and bottles for fundraising efforts such as this, send us a DM and we'll be happy to arrange pickup (in the Calgary area).

Logberg Heimskringla is a community newspaper serving the Icelandic community in North America. It's the only newspaper that covers the entire Icelandic community, with news about people and events from one end of North America to the other. So, we feel it's a pretty big honour indeed to be featured on the front page! Thanks to our friends at Leif Eiriksson Icelandic Club of Calgary for making us aware of it. We had such good fun at Maskudagur and hope to see it become an annual event!

REFLECTIONS, IN OUR OWN WORDS:
“On the best of the year for me and the Vikings, I have two. The first was going to Gimli and being in the boat on the lake. And second, archery coming back to the group in a big way.” - Bjorn

REFLECTIONS, IN OUR OWN WORDS:
“After a 5-year hiatus from Viking Age events, I had an incredible journey with the Ulfændi. From seeing my dream of sailing my own Færing at Gimli, to the simple pleasure of going to practices and be a part of this wonderful group. Yet the absolute highlight for me was Summer Skirmish when I could turn round and see my family, in kit, and participating with me! I never thought I would be able to experience such a moment, and the 2025 season made it happen!” – Regin

"What were your highlights from the 2025 season?"
“Going in the boat. Having a purpose in our village and the Gimli one. Helping at Heritage Park.” -Yrsa

Anora was up in Jasper this weekend. She visited Maligne Lake and *could not* pass up the opportunity to practice kulning across the frozen water. The echo was absolutely incredible (you may hear the echo better with headphones instead of speakers). You can see the pure, unadulterated JOY in her face as she sends her voice over the water to the mountains.
(Full disclosure: she started at Pyramid Lake, then went to Medicine Lake before this video from Maligne. It was kind of an amazing day.)

REFLECTIONS, IN OUR OWN WORDS:
“I loved Days of Yore, Skirmish was really awesome, and Ghouls Night out was a lot of fun, especially interacting with the kiddies and seeing their reactions. It was another learning experience and can’t wait for next year!” – Ulfgar

Can we take a minute to appreciate the ingenuity of two of our members, Regin and Steinar, and the incredible boat they built as a COVID project?
Regin has been reenacting for decades. Building Skera - and sailing her successfully - has been a dream come true. She was initially a faering prototype, merely a proof of concept to see if they could make a fishing vessel. Six years later, we're still getting her out on the water, and she continues to float. She was out in open water on Lake Winnipeg last summer, which was a real thrill, but that adventure has her beginning to show her age.
Given everything they've learned over the course of Skera's creation and years of sailing her, Regin, Steinar and Bjorn are planning to build Skera a sister vessel, which will be bigger and better. We've almost raised the money required for the materials, but could still use a little help to get the rest of the way to the goal. If you're willing to help fund the build, know that every single donation, no matter the size, advances the project. If we can get her built, we'll share photos here and have her out to the Glenmore Reservoir as often as we can. We'll haul her to some of our public events, as well. Anora has written music and a saga inspired by Skera, and Bjorn is already producing the nails we'll need for the next boat. Look for both of these things in village when you visit us next! Please visit our GoFundMe page and donate now!
