The event was organized by the Institute for Cooperation with Foreign Countries (ICPE), and brought together representatives of European institutions, experts, and human rights advocates to discuss the human rights situation in Afghanistan and Iran, as well as the European Union’s responsibility in supporting civil society, women, and fundamental freedoms.

During the meeting, Giorgia Pietropaoli, Board Member of WORDS (Women Organization for Rights, Dignity and Speech ), emphasized the need for greater European attention to the situations in Iran and Afghanistan and called for a more active role by the European Union in supporting women, human rights defenders, and civil society activists.

Referring to the increasing restrictions on women and the widespread human rights violations in both countries, she stressed the need to adopt effective policies to support fundamental freedoms and strengthen international cooperation in this area.

The meeting was held to examine practical approaches for supporting civil society and strengthening human rights diplomacy. Participants discussed the European Union’s responsibilities regarding developments in Afghanistan and Iran, as well as ways to support civil society and human rights activists.

The meeting was moderated by Gianni Lattanzio, Secretary General of the Institute for Cooperation with Foreign Countries (ICPE).

WORDS reiterates the importance of continuing such dialogues and emphasizes the need for joint cooperation between international institutions and civil society to promote and protect women’s rights, human dignity, and fundamental freedoms in Afghanistan, Iran, and other countries facing serious human rights challenges.

A group of Afghan journalists and human rights activists from various countries gathered on Thursday outside the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France, calling on the international community to take meaningful action in defense of the rights of Afghanistan women.
Among the participants was Sohailla Yousofi, a board member of the Women Organization for Rights, Dignity and Speech (WORDS). Emphasizing the importance of global solidarity, she urged international institutions and human rights advocates to take concrete and effective measures to end the widespread violations of the rights of women in Afghanistan.
Yousofi stressed that remaining silent in the face of the systematic deprivation of Afghan women's rights amounts to disregarding the fundamental principles of human rights.
Participants in the gathering emphasized that Afghanistan women are entitled to the same rights as women everywhere in the world. However, they noted that for years Afghan women have been denied their most basic rights, including the right to education, the right to work, the right to freedom, and the right to live with dignity.
Referring to the ongoing and extensive restrictions imposed on women and girls in Afghanistan, the participants called on the international community, international organizations, and human rights institutions not to remain silent. They urged these bodies to make the protection of the fundamental rights of Afghanistan women a global priority.
The gathering concluded with participants chanting slogans such as "Women's Rights Are Human Rights" and "Do Not Forget the Women of Afghanistan." They once again Called on the international community to prioritize support for Afghan women and to take tangible and effective action to restore their fundamental rights and freedoms.
