A CHILD SHOULDN’T HAVE TO LEARN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

School is almost back.

For many families, that means new backpacks, school supplies, and getting back into a routine.

But for some children in our community, it can mean something much harder:

Showing up at school with no lunch.

This year, Gifts of the Heart will be supporting students experiencing food insecurity in 8 local public schools.

And we’re getting ready. 💚

VOLUNTEER OPEN HOUSE & KITCHEN CLEANING PARTY

📅 Wednesday, September 9
⏰ 9 AM – 2 PM
📍 440 Elgin Street
➡️ Enter through the front doors & sign in at reception.

Whether you’re already part of our volunteer family or you’ve been thinking about getting involved, come join us!

Meet our volunteers.
Meet our teams.
Meet some of our Board members.
See what we do.
And help us get the kitchen ready for another school year.

You don’t need special skills.
You don’t need to know where you fit.

Just show up. 💚

Because every lunch packed is more than food.

It’s a child knowing that someone cares.
It’s one less worry during their school day.
It’s our community saying:

“We’ve got you.”

Come help us get ready to make a difference.

We’d love to see you September 9th! 💚

Some wonderful news !

Everyone loves a good news story. The Blessing Centre has one to start your weekend.
We have been challenged with a waste issue for months now. Our garbage shed was burned down when someone crawled into it one night to keep warm and started a fire.
The Centre creates about 20 - 30 bags of food waste every week and unfortunately the city only allows for a 5 bag collection. Plus most of our food rescue comes in cardboard boxes. Therefore cardboard is also an issue.
So the board of directors decided to call and get some quotes on a regular waste/recycle pickup.
We called GFL Environmental and explained what we do at the Blessing Centre, and asked for their recommendations and a price.
They were very informative and helpful in directing us on the best waste practices.
They asked if we would give them a day to figure out a contract price.
The following day GFL called and offered to sponsor the waste/recycle collection for the Blessing Centre at no charge.
Today they delivered two new bright green containers and will come by every week to empty and deal with the Centre’s waste issue.
How great is that. We love it when Brantford’s business community asks “How can we help you”.
They know how to get things done.
Thank you GFL, we are grateful for your expertise, help, and generosity.
God is good.

❤️🌺 19,777 POPPIES — WOW! 🌺❤️

When we began The Poppy Project, we set what felt like an incredible goal: 10,000 poppies.

And look what this community has done…

🌺 19,777 POPPIES! 🌺

We didn’t just reach our goal — we nearly DOUBLED it!

Every one of those poppies has been crocheted, knitted, felted, donated and created by someone who wanted to be part of something meaningful. Soon, they will come together to create a beautiful tribute to those who served, sacrificed and came before us.

But now we need your help with the next BIG step!

All 19,777 poppies need to be attached to our nets before our installation can come to life — and that means we’re going to need lots of helping hands! ❤️

We’ll be holding Poppy Tying Workshops, where you can join us and help attach the poppies to the nets. No special skills are needed — just come ready to lend a hand and be part of this incredible community project.

📅 Stay tuned! Poppy Tying Workshop dates will be announced soon.

To everyone who has made a poppy, attended a workshop, donated yarn, volunteered, shared our posts or cheered us on — THANK YOU.

19,777 poppies and counting. What an amazing community effort.

🌺 Every Poppy Tells a Story. 🌺
