Nurturing community connections can lead to beautiful results! ❤️

Last year, a new teacher from Alexander von Humboldt German International School Montreal wandered through the garden. She shared that she had been involved in a similar project in Germany and wondered how we might collaborate.

At first, it seemed challenging since our busiest gardening season takes place while students are on summer break.

After some brainstorming, we found the perfect solution: the students could grow seedlings for us.
Beginning in February, they carefully nurtured tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants from seed, learning firsthand about the patience and dedication that gardening requires.

Last Thursday, the students joined us at the garden. They spent a few hours in the garden planting their seedlings, harvesting radishes, moving mulch, and weeding alongside our volunteers.

What started as a chance conversation became a meaningful partnership that connected students to food growing, community service, and the joy of getting their hands in the soil. ❤️❤️

We can't wait to see what grows from this collaboration in the years ahead. 🌱❤️

We have been preparing the garden for the past six weeks and planting early cool weather crops. This week we are concentrating on the planting of hundreds of vegetable seedlings that have been brought on under glass. Fifteen (?) volunteers were at the garden this morning and there will be jobs to do on Thursday and Saturday for anyone interested in helping.

Can you spare some time this week ahead to help us plant the last of this season's vegetables?
