Save Our Springs - Ancaster

Save Our Springs - Ancaster “To date, there has been no official public health order issued to close or restrict access to the Ancaster Well.

While the well is not regulated as a Small Drinking Water System under Ontario law, historical testing has consistently shown the water to meet safety guidelines for consumption, with no documented exceedances requiring regulatory intervention.”

**🚨 ANCASTER WAS ON THE USB 🚨**

This is no longer a question.

It’s in the **Integrity Commissioner’s official report.**

📍 **267 Sulphur Springs Road — Ancaster**

Was:
✔️ Included on a **USB submitted to the Province**
✔️ Reviewed by the **Greenbelt Team**
✔️ Discussed internally at the Ministry

This is the SAME process that removed protected Greenbelt lands across Ontario.

Let that sink in.

A property in the heart of **Ancaster’s Escarpment—designated “Escarpment Protection” land—**
was being circulated through a **backchannel process outside normal planning.**

Now here’s what makes it even more concerning:

⚠️ It was allegedly described as coming “from the Premier”
⚠️ That claim was later found to be **not true**
⚠️ No clear explanation exists for **how it got there in the first place**

It wasn’t ultimately removed.

But that’s not the point.

👉 **It was considered.**

And that means:

* Ancaster was not off the radar
* The Escarpment was not off-limits
* And our most protected lands were part of the conversation

💧 The same corridor that feeds our springs
🌱 The same lands we are told are “protected”
⚖️ Were quietly being reviewed behind closed doors

So now we ask:

👉 Who put Ancaster on that USB?
👉 Why was Escarpment Protection land even being discussed?
👉 And what else haven’t we been told?

**This is exactly why we show up.
This is exactly why we speak out.**

📣 **March 28 — 2PM — Hamilton City Hall**

Because if we don’t defend these lands…
someone else will decide their future for us.

**🚨 WHAT WAS ON THE USB? ANCASTER DESERVES ANSWERS 🚨**

We now know—through official investigations—that **Greenbelt land removals were influenced by information handed directly to the Minister on a USB drive.**

Not through public process.
Not through transparent planning.
But behind closed doors.

Let that sink in.

---

Now here’s the question no one is asking loudly enough:

👉 **Were any lands in or around Ancaster—especially near Sulphur Springs—ever considered in that process?**

Because we know:
💧 Our springs sit on sensitive, valuable land
🌱 Development pressure is already at our borders (UBE-3)
⚠️ And decisions have already been made elsewhere without public input

---

This is not an accusation.

This is a call for **transparency.**

If decisions were being shaped through backchannel materials like a USB…
then the public has every right to know:

* What lands were included?
* Who submitted them?
* And whether **Ancaster’s watershed was ever part of that conversation**

---

The Ancaster springs are too important to be left in the dark.

👉 We are asking—clearly and publicly:

**Was Ancaster ever on that list?**

Until we get a straight answer…
we will keep asking.

What Does “Forever” Mean Anymore? The Ancaster Well Is at Risk

The Ancaster Well was donated to the community in 1998 with strict protections “in perpetuity.”

That means it was never meant to be sold, developed, or repurposed—ever.
It was entrusted to the people. To *us*. To future generations.

But now we’re hearing about changes from that could weaken or override .

Let’s be clear about what that means:

Forever” may no longer mean forever
Legal protections on donated lands could be challenged or removed
Sites like the Ancaster Well become vulnerable to policy shifts and development pressure

And with -3 sitting right at the edge of the Ancaster Wells this is not theoretical.

This is real.

This isn’t just about one spring—it’s about every piece of land ever donated to the public in good faith.

If donors can’t trust that their legacy will be honoured:

* Why would anyone donate land again?
* What happens to all the conservation lands we already have?
* Who decides when “perpetuity” no longer matters?

The Ancaster springs are the **reason this community exists.**
They are heritage. They are water. They are history.

And they were **meant to be protected forever.**

So we have to ask:

👉 Who has the right to break a promise made to the future?

This is a call for awareness, accountability, and action.
