Hi friends and supporters. I have been MIA because my incredible husband, partner (in every sense of the word), life mate and one true love passed away on May 18th of this year.

My husband was the one that introduced me to the Ewings Cancer Foundation Endowment Fund ladies. Gail and Tina. From the moment I experienced the amazing work they were doing and the cause, I knew I wanted to help them make a difference in the lives of children and youth with Ewings Sarcoma. I started fundraising for what is now known as Ewings Cancer Foundation Endowment Fund at SickKids Foundation. The money raised through fundraising events and one-time, monthly and annual donations supports Ewings sarcoma research and education.

We will be continuing with our fundraising once I feel I can manage it all and am in a healthy space. I will be doing a call out for volunteers at that time.

Thanks for reading and for all you have done for help with our fundraising efforts.
Bless you
Tiffany

Gildas is a great resource for cancer patients and their family. Check this program out.

Parents caring for a child with cancer often focus entirely on their child's needs while quietly carrying feelings of guilt, helplessness, anxiety, and self-blame.

As healthcare professionals, we know that supporting a family's psychosocial well-being is an important part of comprehensive cancer care.

Gilda's Toronto invites you to share our upcoming Careful Steps Workshop with families in your care:

Navigating Childhood Cancer as a Parent – Guilt, Helplessness, and Self-Compassion

This evidence-based virtual workshop provides parents with a supportive environment to explore common caregiving challenges through guided reflection, peer connection, and self-compassion practices. Participants gain practical tools to navigate difficult emotions while strengthening resilience and connection.

📅 June 30, 2026
🕛 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM ET
💻 Virtual via Zoom

Facilitated by Tory Hagerman, Certified Child Life Specialist and Family Support & Outreach Manager at Gilda's Toronto.

Eligible participants include parents of children who are newly diagnosed, currently receiving treatment, or up to five years post-treatment.

At Gilda's Toronto, we believe exceptional cancer care extends beyond medical treatment. Through evidence-based psychosocial programming, professional mental health support, and a welcoming community, we help individuals and families navigate the emotional impact of cancer and live, while living with cancer.

We welcome referrals from pediatric oncology teams, social workers, child life specialists, nurses, psychologists, and community care providers.

This is such promising news. Can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Promising new research is bringing hope to the Ewing sarcoma community. 💙

Researchers at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia have developed a new targeted cancer therapy that showed remarkable results in preclinical studies for Ewing sarcoma and several other cancers.

The therapy targets a protein called IL1RAP, found on the surface of certain cancer cells but largely absent from healthy tissue. By attaching a cancer-fighting drug to an antibody that recognizes this protein, researchers created a treatment designed to precisely attack cancer cells while minimizing harm to normal cells.

In multiple Ewing sarcoma models, the therapy:
• Eliminated established tumors
• Dramatically reduced the spread of cancer (metastasis)
• Demonstrated a strong safety profile in preclinical testing
The findings were recently published in Cancer Discovery and researchers say the data support moving toward human clinical trials in the near future.

“This isn’t a distant possibility,” said senior author Dr. Poul Sorensen. “The data position this for clinical trials in the very near future.”

We are also proud to share that Dr. Poul Sorensen serves on the Strategic Advisory Board of the Ewing Sarcoma Institute (ESI). His decades of dedication to Ewing sarcoma research continue to help advance new understanding and potential treatment approaches for patients around the world.

Researchers believe IL1RAP may act like a “protective shield” that helps cancer cells survive as they travel through the body and form metastases. This new approach turns that shield into a target — delivering treatment directly into the cancer cells themselves.

While more work remains before this therapy can be tested in patients, this research represents an exciting and encouraging step forward in the search for more precise and effective treatments for Ewing sarcoma and other cancers.

We are deeply grateful to the researchers and collaborators around the world dedicated to advancing better treatments and hope for patients and families.🎗️
