Approaching Potentially Dangerous Animals while on Game Drives, Boats, Canoes - How to avoid potential attacks. After nearly 30 years of guiding and guide training experience, many experts here in Botswana have/implore an element into the National Guiding Standards as follows: 1. Before approaching, stop from a distance and assess the animals mood/status = injured, mating, with young, aggressive, nervous or Elephant Bull in Musth and guests status. 2. If all fine, then re-assure guests to keep quite and keep seated. Then approach from side and not head on. 3. Do not approach too close and ensure you have an escape route. 4. At any stage, if animal/s show irritation or warning signs then stop, or back off. NB: DO NOT JUST DRIVE/APPROACH animal without following above steps.

The Black Cuckoos and Woodland King Fishers are back in northern Botswana. Welcome the migrants and another season after nearly two years of no tourism business, the birds don't really care.

As a passionate guide trainer/mentor/assessor, one of the first character traits and physical ability is:
1. can the person change a flat tire. Can one fix this puncture on site?
2. in possible extremes, weather in deep sand, mud or water, with out a back-up team, can you keep calm and cool and get yourself out of it.
3. one should have checked the 4x4 /Horses and savior equipment before going out.

You are welcome to join me on an inspirational backpack trail.
4. Then be able to pass the assessments.
5. Key aspect is how one deals with paying guests and ensuring we all walk out alive with happy smiles. No one said it would be easy?
