The five-day Joint Advocacy Program commenced today in Sarpang, bringing together 291 participants under one roof to address pressing social issues.
From December 2nd to 6th, the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP), National Commission for Women and Children (NCWC), The Pema, and RENEW are uniting in Sarpang dzongkhag and Gelephu thromde for a transformative advocacy initiative. The program focuses on key issues such as domestic violence, crime, and drug abuse, aiming to spark meaningful conversations and inspire impactful actions to build stronger, more supportive communities.

One of the participants, Kinley Dema commented, “This session was an eye-opener for us. It’s rare to see service providers coming together to address such important issues collaboratively. The discussions have encouraged us to reflect and take meaningful actions at an individual level to create a stronger and more supportive community.”

RENEW marked another milestone on 29th Nov 2024, by establishing the Rainbow help desk. This initiative is to provide psychosocio support and promote inclusive support services for key population to address gender based violence.

Research and community feedback highlight the alarming prevalence of physical, sexual, emotional, and economic violence faced by LGBTQ individuals. A needs assessment report indicates they are four times more likely to experience violence compared to others. Additionally, they often grapple with challenges such as stigmatization, discrimination, and a fear of being misunderstood, leaving many to suffer in silence.

This desk is supported by IPPF and Save the children. We encourage you to seek services.

Today, we join the global community in observing the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Violence in any form leaves lasting scars on lives, families, and communities, calling for urgent and unified action.

This year, under the global theme- UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls, and Bhutan’s local theme- Adolescent Pregnancy: Prevention and Intervention, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a safer, equitable world for all women and girls.

Let us stand together to address these pressing issues, raise awareness, and take meaningful action. Together, we can break the cycle of violence and ensure that every woman and girl can live with dignity, safety, and equal opportunity.
