The Government is strengthening marine resources management, with initiatives including:
📱 Digital catch reporting through Shellcatch gives fishermen an easier way to report catch data, streamlining a process that has long relied on paper logbooks and manual entry
🦞 Updated stock assessments for red hind and spiny lobster, alongside ecosystem-level monitoring, are providing DENR with a more comprehensive understanding of Bermuda’s marine environment
⚖️ A Marine Resources Enforcement Strategy has been tabled in Parliament, and Bermuda is already seeing more successful prosecutions for illegal fishing and higher penalties
🖊️ This and other work continues to address the 2024 Independent Review Panel's recommendations for the Marine Spatial Plan, with 10 of 22 completed and 12 in active progress.

Bermuda's ocean is used for shipping, tourism, fishing and more. The Marine Spatial Plan helps balance all of these uses while protecting the marine environment. It does more than set up protected areas: it guides how Bermuda's marine resources are monitored and cared for, so they stay healthy for years to come.
