Behaviour is a form of communication, and understanding what lies behind it is an important part of supporting children and young people.

An important piece by Paolo Odoli in today's Royal Gazette, reminding us why we need to look beyond challenging behaviour and consider the needs, experiences and circumstances of every child.

Early understanding and the right support can make a lasting difference.

When a child struggles to learn, when his behaviour becomes disruptive, when he stops seeing a place for himself in school, how often do we ask what is happening underneath? Too often a need that fir...

Happy Halloween! 🎃

For little ones, Halloween is full of big excitement — costumes, trick-or-treating, decorations and plenty of treats.

It can also be a lot to take in. New sights and sounds, unfamiliar faces and a change in routine can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Follow your child’s lead, keep expectations flexible and remember: they don’t have to join in with everything to have fun.

Wishing Bermuda’s little ghosts, superheroes, princesses, pumpkins — and their grown-ups — a safe and happy Halloween! 👻

Feeding changes a lot during the early years — from milk feeds to first foods, new textures, cups and eventually joining in with family meals.

Every child develops at their own pace, but knowing what to expect can make it easier to recognise progress and spot when your child might need some extra support.

Visit earlyyearsnurturingbda.org for information and resources on feeding and development through the early years.

Healthy teeth and gums matter from the very beginning — even before that first little tooth appears.

Building good oral health habits early can help protect children's teeth as they grow and make brushing and dental care a normal part of everyday life.

Not sure when brushing should start, when to see a dentist or what to expect as those first teeth arrive?

Visit earlyyearsnurturingbda.org for information and resources to help you support your child's health and development.

Children rely on their vision to explore, play, learn and make sense of the world around them.

Because young children may not be able to tell us when something doesn't look quite right, understanding what to look for and keeping up with recommended vision checks can help identify concerns early.

Learn more about children's vision, developmental milestones and when to seek additional support at earlyyearsnurturingbda.org.

“I can’t do it” can become “I can’t do it yet.”

Helping children develop a growth mindset means encouraging them to keep trying, learn from mistakes and understand that new skills take time and practice.

Parents and caregivers can help build this mindset through the way we praise, encourage and respond when things don’t go quite to plan.

Hearing plays an important role in a child's speech, language, learning and social development.

Some hearing difficulties can be difficult to spot, particularly in very young children.

Knowing the milestones and signs to look for can help parents and caregivers know when it may be worth asking for advice.

From reaching for a toy to taking those first steps, children are constantly developing new ways to move, explore and interact with the world around them.

Understanding developmental milestones can help parents and caregivers know what to expect as their child grows — and recognise when they may benefit from a little extra support.

Wondering what milestones to look for at different ages?
Visit earlyyearsnurturingbda.org for information, resources and practical guidance.
