🌍💚 We are still at the halfway point of the LTT, but there is already so much to share!!

This week, our project has brought students and teachers together in beautiful Dobrna, Slovenia, for five days of creativity, sustainability, cultural exchange and hands-on learning! 🇸🇮🇪🇺

🎨 From art and music workshops to discovering the world of beekeeping, exploring climate-friendly food choices and visiting local farms, the first days have been packed with experiences that take learning beyond the classroom.

♻️ Wednesday brings even more creativity, with bread baking, puppet making from waste materials and “GreenHUB in Action: Test & Design”, where students get to explore and contribute to the project's digital platform!

✨ And we're not finished yet! The next two days promise more exciting experiences, including a sustainable creativity workshop at Tehnopark Celje and the much-anticipated ECO BAZAAR!

🤝 It's inspiring to see how international collaboration can turn sustainability into something practical, creative and fun.

📸 Here's a little glimpse of what's been happening so far. Stay tuned for more!

☀️💦 A swimming pool looks simple: water, sunshine and somewhere to cool down. But look again, because it is actually a whole system.

Think about what happens when water is lost through evaporation, splashing, overflow or a small leak.

The first consequence is obvious: less water in the pool.
But problems like this don't let us stop there.

What happens next?

💧 Lost water may need to be replaced.
⚙️ Replacement water needs to become part of the pool’s filtration and circulation system.
🧪 It may need to be treated and chemically balanced.
⚡ Pumps and other equipment need energy to operate.
🌡️ And in a heated pool, new water may also need additional heating.

And this is exactly why sustainability problems are rarely solved by looking at only one thing.

Instead of asking:

“How do we save water?”

try going one step further:

🔎 Why is the water being lost in the first place?
🔗 What other parts of the system are affected?
👥 Which behaviours make the problem better or worse?
⚡ Where are additional resources being used?
💡 Could one intervention solve several problems at the same time?

For example, covering a pool when it is not being used doesn't simply reduce evaporation. By keeping more water inside the system, it can also reduce how often water needs to be replaced and, depending on the pool, reduce some of the additional treatment or energy associated with that replacement.

That shift in thinking is important.

Sustainability is not only about doing more “green things”. It is about understanding how things are connected and finding the points where one smart change can influence the wider system.

🌍 So here is your late-summer challenge:

Look at something ordinary around you like the swimming pool, your school, your home, a park.

Choose one sustainability problem.

Then keep asking:

“And what does THAT affect?”

Follow the chain.

You might discover that the real problem — and the best solution — is somewhere you didn't expect.

19th to 22nd was THE week - in Paris! Not only was this an international experience that was next level, but also it developed some of the most important contemporary skills like systematic thinking, critical thinking, adaptability, intercultural communication, writing and many more~

🌿Sustainability was entwined in pretty much all activities, making it fun and related to possitive experiences. The activites were so many that we could not even fit them all in the video!

What we did included:
Ice breaking games
Energizers
Podcast recording
Public speaking
Reading of advocacy slogans
Sewing with sewing machines
Creating art from old newspapers
Talking about the EU
Discussion with an American guest with a sustainable start-up
Rock climbing
and much more!

🔋The LTT reminded us how powerful international cooperation can be when people from different countries come together with a shared educational purpose. Next up for SYSTEM-HUBS will have the teachers in the center. Can you guess what is coming?

Taking action locally for a global impact
On September 20th, 2025, a group of students from Collège Anatole France (Les Pavillons-sous-Bois, France) took part in the World Cleanup Day — a global movement bringing millions of people together to clean up our planet.
♻️ Why does it matter?
Every year, millions of tons of waste end up in nature: streets, parks, rivers, and oceans. This pollution threatens biodiversity, contaminates ecosystems, and contributes to climate change. Taking action—even locally—helps protect our environment and raises awareness about our consumption habits.
👣 Our students in action:
Armed with gloves, bags, and determination, the students collected and sorted waste around their local area.
📊 Results:
* Several bags of waste collected in just a few hours
* A large proportion of plastic and packaging waste
* Increased awareness among students about everyday pollution
💡 Beyond the cleanup:
This experience helped students understand that small actions can lead to big change. It also encouraged them to reflect on how to reduce waste in their daily lives and think about the new initiative coming!
🎯 SDGs involved:
Sustainable Cities and Communities
Responsible Consumption and Production
Climate Action
Life on Land
✨ Acting together, learning together, changing together.

🌍 SYSTEM HUBs: taking action for a sustainable future

But first… what are the SDGs? 🤔

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 goals set by the United Nations to build a more just, inclusive and sustainable world by 2030.

💡 In the Erasmus+ SYSTEM HUBs project, the SDGs are our compass.

👉 Every action led by our students connects to one or more SDGs:
🌱 protecting the environment
🤝 reducing inequalities
🍽️ fighting food insecurity
🏫 improving well-being at school
🌍 collaborating with students across Europe

🎯 Our goal?
To empower students to understand global challenges… and take real action at their own level.

💬 Because every action matters — and young people have a key role to play in shaping the future.

🔎 Which SDG speaks to you the most?

🌱 Earth Day is exactly three weeks away! Are we doing enough? 🌍
Traditional environmental education often focuses on individual actions like recycling or turning off the lights. While important, the future requires us to tackle the root causes of climate change through systemic thinking! 🧠💡
We believe that young people shouldn't just learn about the environment—they should be the ones leading the change and shaping policy. From peer-led energy audits to running sustainability councils, empowering students is the key to a greener future.

🚀 What's next for the SYSTEM-HUBS project? Here is a sneak peek at our upcoming spring activities! 🌱
Since we kicked off in November 2025, we've been working hard to transform traditional schools into "Living Labs" for systemic sustainability As we head into April and May, our timeline is packed with exciting hands-on action

Here is what our incredible students and teachers will be rolling out next:
🌍 Starting in April 2026:
Circular Economy Initiatives: We are officially launching our hands-on waste reduction programs! Partner schools will begin establishing Repair Cafés—where students learn to fix and repurpose electronics and clothing—as well as our Zero-Waste Cafeterias

Real-World Simulation Exercises: Students and teachers will dive into role-playing simulations By acting out real-world scenarios like climate policy debates and urban planning, students will sharpen their critical thinking and learn how to negotiate complex environmental solutions

⚡ Coming in May 2026:
Peer-Led Energy Audits: Students will take charge of their school's energy footprints! They will conduct energy audits to find inefficiencies in heating, lighting, and water usage, and work with local experts to implement real energy-saving measures

Peer-to-Peer Mentorship: We will begin developing our Peer Learning-Based Manual, a structured program where older students will step up to mentor and guide younger peers in sustainability leadership and advocacy

Our students aren't just learning about the future—they are actively building it! 🛠️💡
🗣️ We want to hear from you: Which of these upcoming activities are you most excited to see in action? Let us know in the comments below! 👇
