🌍 This week, we hosted a workshop for aspiring entrepreneurs—most of them displaced people from Ukraine—who are planning to start social businesses in the Netherlands.
Despite the uncertainty around their legal status and the deep emotional pain caused by the ongoing war, their energy and determination were incredible. Participants shared their hopes, challenges, and bold ideas for businesses that aim to make a positive impact—on both their communities and Dutch society.
💡 Ideas ranged from:
• Authentic Ukrainian food ventures
• Sustainable footwear made from sheep wool
• Language courses and cultural bridging
• Coaching and psychological counselling services
We explored how digital storytellingcan help connect these meaningful initiatives with wider audiences, raise visibility, and foster community support.
🎯 These stories aren't just about business. They're about resilience, contribution, and rebuilding lives with purpose.We're proud to support this journey and look forward to seeing these ideas grow!

International Round Table Discussion On March 27, 2025 we have hosted the International Round Table Discussion "Addressing Communication Challenges of Social Businesses with Digital Storytelling." Together with Dr. Svetla Tagareva from EDF (Bulgaria) we have explored communication barriers of social businesses in the Netherlands and Bulgaria. On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, our project volunteer Gioele Gerini presented his research on emotional storytelling for sustainability at the ETMAAL Conference in Communication Science in Bruges. Conducted in collaboration with Dr. Anna Fenko, a lecturer at the University of Amsterdam and CEO of our project partner FENAN Consulting, the study examined how different emotional framing influences people’s willingness to adopt energy-saving measures at home—such as lowering the heating temperature or taking shorter showers....

We have now finalised the Educational needs analysis of Dutch and Bulgarian social businesses in preparation for the International Round Table Discussion "Addressing Communication Challenges of Social Businesses with Digital Storytelling" that will take place on Thursday, March 27, at 15:00 CET.

During the discussion, we will dive into communication challenges of Dutch and Bulgarian social enterprises and discuss digital storytelling skills that can help social enterprises to increase their visibility, attract investors, partners and clients and to increase their positive societal impact.
