OPEN DESTINATIONS in Sofia was much more than a conference: it was a moment of dialogue and collaboration focused on accessibility, inclusion, and Design for All.

Professionals, institutions, and citizens shared ideas, solutions, and best practices to make cities, culture, public spaces, and services more accessible to everyone.

One clear message emerged from these days: inclusion is a shared responsibility and a universal necessity.

Thanks to the Design for All Bulgaria Foundation, Ivelina Gadjeva , the EIDD speakers leaded by president Rama Gheerawo Pete Kercher ,Antonio D. In a landmark moment for European design, EIDD Design for All and the European Council of Interior Architects (ECIA) have signed a formal agreement to deepen collaboration and champion inclusive interior spaces across the continent.

The agreement was officially sealed during the Responsible Design event – organized by European Council of Interior Architects in collaboration with AIPi Italia (Associazione Italiana Professionisti Interior Designers ) as part of Fuorisalone and Milan Design Week at Casa Lombardia. EIDD President Rama Gheerawo and ECIA President Thomas Seifert put pen to paper in front of an audience of leading designers, architects, and policymakers, marking a powerful commitment to put people at the heart of every interior.

Exciting News from EIDD – Design for All!
We are proud to introduce Open Destinations | Tourism for All 2026 – an international conference from DFA Bulgaria foundation by Ivelina Gadjeva taking place in Sofia, Bulgaria on 28 May 2026.
This unique event explores how inclusive design can reshape the way destinations are conceived, experienced, and developed. Moving beyond traditional tourism metrics (visitors, nights, revenue), the conference focuses on creating welcoming, accessible, and meaningful places for everyone — designers, architects, tourism professionals, policymakers, cultural organisations, and hospitality leaders will come together to share international perspectives and practical solutions.
At the same location, we will also hold the EIDD – Design for All General Assembly 2026. This year’s Assembly will be particularly important, with key discussions on the future of our organisation and the re-shaping of our new worldwide identity.
A full day dedicated to inclusive design, tourism, culture, and the strategic direction of Design for All globally!

EIDD will be present this year at the prestigious Milan Design Week , the most important design week in the world.

A global stage where designers, industry leaders, and international academies come together to exchange ideas, visions, and innovation.

Together with AIPi Italia the Italian association recognized as a key reference point for interior design — and European Council of Interior Architects, the European organization representing the profession , we will explore the responsible role of interior architecture in shaping safer, more beautiful, and more inclusive environments.

The panels will feature outstanding personalities from across the international design community and will culminate in a special lecture by KARIM RASHID with whom we previously shared the stage in Turkey.

Centre and the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava – Faculty of Architecture and Design are pleased to promote the hybrid conference “Design for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)” on Thursday, 19 February 2026.

Co-organised with the European Accessibility Resource Centre – AccessibleEU, in cooperation with partner universities of the EDIDesK Project “Open Access Contents on Design for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion for Higher Education Programmes”, funded by the Erasmus+ programme (KA220-HED) of the European Union, the event will spotlight the European teaching framework for Design and EDI to support a more inclusive Europe.

The programme will feature contributions from EDIDesK partner universities in Italy, Poland, Spain, and Slovakia, focusing on innovative approaches and practices in: architecture and urban design, product design, industrial design, system design, and digital design.
