Erasmus Student Network Plovdiv Erasmus Student Network- ESN is the largest student, volunteer organization in EU. The organization helps the Erasmus students during their stay in Plovdiv.

It was born on the 16th October 1989 and legally registered in 1990 for supporting and developing student exchange. ESN is present in more than 430 Higher Education Institutions from 37 countries. The network is constantly developing and ex

panding. It has around 13.500 active members that are in many sections supported by so called buddies, mainly taking care of international students. Thus, ESN involves around 29.000 young people offering its services to around 180.000 international students every year. Why join us? If you miss being part of Erasmus, joining ESN will help you fight the post-Erasmus depression

🌄 Hiking + Picnic in Asenovgrad | May 6th

Join us for a fullday in nature! 🌿
We'll take the train from Plovdiv to Asenovgrad and hike for around 2 hours along an easy trail — suitable for everyone. Once we reach the spot, it's picnic time! 🧺 Bring some food to share with the rest of the group.
On the way back, we'll stop at Asen's Fortress 🏰, one of the 100 national cultural sites of Bulgaria. Not to be missed!

May 6th is St. George's Day, one of the most celebrated saints in Bulgaria and a name shared by thousands of people here. The song in this post, Ederlezi, is a traditional song that celebrates exactly this occasion. 🌸

📋 What you need to know:
🕙 Meet at the train station at 9:45 — the train leaves at 10:15 and it won't wait! The ticketing system closes a few minutes before departure, so we need time to buy tickets. Please be on time.
👟 Wear comfortable shoes and bring a reusable water bottle — there are natural fountains along the trail to refill.
🍉 Bring food to share with the group!
‼️Don't forget your university ID to keep the price as listed.
🌱 We're guests in nature — please leave the place as you found it.

3rd of March: Bringing People Together for a Horo… or Two 🇧🇬

Join ESN Plovdiv on 3rd March for a special cultural experience at Арт център Алехандро (Hall 1),

The date is no coincidence – 3rd March is an important national celebration in Bulgaria, and we’ll mark it in the most authentic way possible: by dancing horo, the traditional Bulgarian folk dance.

This event is open to university and Erasmus students who would like to discover more about local traditions while having fun and meeting new people. From weddings and christenings to festivals and street celebrations, horo is danced everywhere in Bulgaria. Learning it is a wonderful way to feel more connected and integrated into Bulgarian society.

✨ What to expect:

A short warm-up at the beginning

Step-by-step guidance from a professional instructor

Learning the basic horo and some of its most popular variations

Insights into the cultural importance of horo

A social break with food and drinks included

The event will last at least 2 hours

👟 Please bring:

Clean shoes (suitable for indoor use)

Comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely

A reusable water bottle if you wish (though refreshments will be provided)

There are changing rooms available on site for your convenience.

⚠ Important:
By attending the event, participants agree to be photographed and filmed during the activity. The images and videos may be used on the social media channels of ESN and EUniverse. Participants will also be asked to sign a confirmation of participation.

Ready for an unforgettable Thursday night? 👀

Join ESN Plovdiv for our Pub Crawl on Thursday 26th February, starting at 20:00 at the Singing Fountains in Tsar Simeon Garden.

We’ll begin with a small pre-drink together (included in the price, but feel free to bring your own drink if you prefer). Afterwards, we’ll visit several bars around Plovdiv where you’ll enjoy shots, beer or wine, and take part in different fun games along the way.

Before heading to our final stop, you’ll have the chance to grab some street food. 🌯

🎤 We’ll finish the night at No Sense, where the official event ends. After that, everyone is free to stay and continue the night as they wish.

During this tour, you will learn general information about Bulgaria and Plovdiv, along with fascinating anecdotes that bring the city’s past and present to life. We will explore different historical periods that have shaped the city

We will walk through the charming streets of the Old Town and the creative district of Kapana, but even if you have already visited the city centre, we are confident you will discover new stories and hidden details you may have missed

🏠 Optional visit:
If there is interest, we may enter one of the traditional houses in the Old Town. The group/student entrance fee is expected to be less than €1.50.

🇧🇬✨ ESN Plovdiv goes to Karlovo – 21 February ✨🇧🇬

Join ESN Plovdiv for a cultural day trip to Karlovo on 21 February to experience Starchovden!

On this special day, the celebration in Karlovo will begin at 10:00, filling the streets with traditional Bulgarian dances and the spectacular procession of kukeri (colourful bulgarian monster costumes)

📍 Meeting point: Plovdiv Train Station
🚆 We will split into two groups. The first group will start to gather at 7:00, and the second one at 9:30

Departure time of the trains:
• First train: 7:30
• Second train: 9:48

⚠️ Please note: In the last 5 minutes before departure, the system does not allow ticket sales. We strongly recommend arriving at least 20 minutes earlier to buy your ticket. The train will not wait for anyone – if you are late, it will leave without you.

💶 Return ticket price: €4.60

To help us organise everything smoothly, we will ask all participants to fill in a form that will be shared in our WhatsApp group.

While in Karlovo, you will have the chance to try traditional drinks such as coffe brewed in hot sand or rose tea. 🌹 Roses are a true symbol of Karlovo, and the town is also the birthplace of the Bulgarian national hero Vasil Levski.

The main reason for our trip is the celebration of Starchovden – the event starts at 10:00. The first group will arrive just as the festivities begin, while the second group may miss a small part of the celebration.

Afterwards, we will all return together by train and be back in Plovdiv before 19:00.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience Bulgarian traditions up close. See you there! 🇧🇬
