The participants in the Escape project have recounted firsthand their experiences in Bulgarian prisons and how alternative learning methods are embraced among inmates.
The meeting was held at the Bistrot of the Don Soria prison in Alessandria (Italy) were inmates and chefs work togheter.

"Time in prison has stopped." says Ivan, a former prisoner. Most of the prisoners are young people, with sentences of up to 3 years. What happens after they serve their sentence depends on whether teachers, psychologists and experts working in prisons have been able to reach their minds and hearts. The ways are numerous, as are human destinies. One of them is forum theater or theater of the oppressed, a format created in the 60s by the Brazilian Augusto Boal.

People are sent to prison AS punishment, rather than FOR punishment. Punishing less and understanding more, or, at the least, making sensible connections between criminal justice and social policy.
This was the topic of discussion of the final meeting of ESCAPE partners at Stara Zagora prison. Lots of food for thoughts and ideas for new projects.

🌍 As part of the final training and dissemination activities of the Erasmus+ KA2 ESCAPE project, we visited the 🏛️ prison in Stara Zagora. Our meeting with representatives from different departments was enriching and inspired a space for reality comparisons among the 3 partner countries: 🇫🇮 Finland, 🇧🇬 Bulgaria, and 🇮🇹 Italy.
