গণপরিবহন ও পরিবহন টার্মিনালে তামাক নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইন বাস্তবায়নে খুলনায় বিভাগীয় আলোচনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত
গণপরিবহন ও পরিবহন টার্মিনালকে ধূমপানমুক্ত এবং তামাকমুক্ত পরিবেশ হিসেবে গড়ে তোলার লক্ষ্যে পরিবহন মালিক সমিতি ও শ্রমিক ইউনিয়নের নেতৃবৃন্দের অংশগ্রহণে খুলনায় একটি বিভাগীয় আলোচনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে।
শনিবার (১৮ জুন) খুলনা নগরীর সোনাডাঙ্গায় অবস্থিত খুলনা বাস-মিনিবাস মালিক সমিতির কার্যালয়ে এ আলোচনা সভার আয়োজন করা হয়। ডেভেলপমেন্ট অ্যাক্টিভিটিস অব সোসাইটি (ডাস্) এবং বাংলাদেশ তামাক বিরোধী জোট (বাটা) যৌথভাবে সভার আয়োজন করে। এতে সহযোগিতা করে সিয়াম। সভায় প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিআরটিএ খুলনার উপ-পরিচালক (ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং) জনাব তানভীর আহমেদ। সভায় সভাপতিত্ব করেন খুলনা বাস-মিনিবাস মালিক সমিতির ভারপ্রাপ্ত সভাপতি ও কার্যকরী সম্পাদক সাইফুল মল্লিক। সম্মানিত অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন খুলনা বাস-মিনিবাস মালিক সমিতির সাধারণ সম্পাদক আলহাজ্ব মো. রবিউল করিম এবং খুলনা মোটর শ্রমিক ইউনিয়নের সভাপতি মোহাম্মদ জাহিদ হোসেন। এছাড়াও সভায় খুলনা বাস-মিনিবাস মালিক সমিতি ও মোটর শ্রমিক ইউনিয়নের অন্যান্য নেতৃবৃন্দ অংশগ্রহণ করেন। সভা পরিচালনা করেন অ্যাডভোকেট মো. মাসুম বিল্লাহ, নির্বাহী পরিচালক, সিয়াম।
সভায় মূল প্রবন্ধ উপস্থাপন করেন ডেভেলপমেন্ট এ্যাকটিভিটিসি অফ সোসাইটি (ডাস্)-এর তামাক নিয়ন্ত্রণ প্রকল্পের প্রজেক্ট ম্যানেজমেন্ট লিড কাজী মোহাম্মদ হাসিবুল হক। তিনি গণপরিবহন ও পরিবহন টার্মিনালে ধূমপান ও তামাকজাত দ্রব্য ব্যবহারের ফলে জনস্বাস্থ্য ঝুঁকি, বিদ্যমান আইন বাস্তবায়নের চ্যালেঞ্জ এবং কার্যকর তদারকি ও সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধির বিভিন্ন দিক তুলে ধরেন। আলোচনায় বক্তারা বলেন, গণপরিবহন ও পরিবহন টার্মিনাল ধূমপানমুক্ত রাখা আইনগত বাধ্যবাধকতা হলেও বিভিন্ন স্থানে এখনও আইন লঙ্ঘনের ঘটনা ঘটছে। যাত্রী, চালক, পরিবহন শ্রমিক এবং সংশ্লিষ্ট সকল পক্ষের মধ্যে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি ও আইন বাস্তবায়নকারী সংস্থার সক্রিয় ভূমিকার মাধ্যমে এ পরিস্থিতির উন্নতি সম্ভব।
প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্যে বিআরটিএর উপ-পরিচালক (ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং) তানভীর আহমেদ গণপরিবহন খাতে তামাক নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইন বাস্তবায়নে সকল অংশীজনের সমন্বিত উদ্যোগের ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করেন। তিনি পরিবহন মালিক ও শ্রমিক নেতাদের আইন মেনে চলা এবং যাত্রীদের জন্য নিরাপদ ও স্বাস্থ্যসম্মত পরিবেশ নিশ্চিত করতে কার্যকর পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণের আহ্বান জানান।
সভায় অংশগ্রহণকারী পরিবহন মালিক ও শ্রমিক নেতৃবৃন্দ গণপরিবহন ও পরিবহন টার্মিনালকে সম্পূর্ণ ধূমপানমুক্ত রাখার অঙ্গীকার ব্যক্ত করেন এবং তামাক নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইন বাস্তবায়নে সক্রিয় সহযোগিতা প্রদানের প্রত্যয় ব্যক্ত করেন।.........................
Divisional Discussion Meeting Held in Khulna on the Implementation of To***co Control Law in Public Transport and Transport Terminals
A divisional discussion meeting was held in Khulna with the participation of leaders of transport owners’ associations and workers’ unions to strengthen the implementation of to***co control laws in public transport and transport terminals and to promote smoke-free and to***co-free environments.
The meeting was organized on Saturday (June 18) at the office of the Khulna Bus-Minibus Owners’ Association in Sonadanga, Khulna. The event was jointly organized by the Development Activities of Society (DAS) and the Bangladesh Anti-To***co Alliance (BATA), with support from SEIAM. Mr. Tanvir Ahmed, Deputy Director (Engineering) of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Khulna, attended the meeting as the Chief Guest. The session was chaired by Mr. Saiful Mallik, Acting President and Executive Secretary of the Khulna Bus-Minibus Owners’ Association. Distinguished guests included Alhaj Md. Robiul Karim, General Secretary of the Khulna Bus-Minibus Owners’ Association, and Mr. Mohammad Zahid Hossain, President of the Khulna Motor Workers’ Union. Leaders and representatives of the Khulna Bus-Minibus Owners’ Association and the Motor Workers’ Union also participated in the discussion. The session was moderated by Advocate Md. Masum Billah, Executive Director of SEIAM.
The keynote paper was presented by Kazi Mohammad Hasibul Huq, Project Management Lead of the To***co Control Project at Development Activities of Society (DAS). In his presentation, he highlighted the public health risks associated with smoking and to***co use in public transport and transport terminals, the challenges in enforcing existing to***co control laws, and the importance of effective monitoring and public awareness initiatives.
During the discussion, speakers noted that although maintaining smoke-free public transport and transport terminals is a legal obligation, violations of the law continue to occur in various locations. They emphasized that greater awareness among passengers, drivers, transport workers, and other stakeholders, along with stronger enforcement efforts, is essential to improving compliance.
In his remarks, Chief Guest Mr. Tanvir Ahmed stressed the importance of coordinated action among all stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of to***co control laws in the transport sector. He called upon transport owners and workers’ leaders to comply with the law and take practical measures to ensure a safe and healthy environment for passengers.
At the conclusion of the meeting, transport owners and workers’ leaders expressed their commitment to maintaining completely smoke-free public transport and transport terminals and pledged their active cooperation in implementing to***co control laws.
