✨ TESTIMONIAL TUESDAYS ✨Meet Nen Flores.
My mom is a breast cancer survivor. When she was diagnosed back in 2014, my world came crashing down. I was dying inside from fear, but I did my best not to show my true emotions to anyone. I always pretended to be brave and strong. I questioned God—why did this have to happen to my mom? In my mind, I made an “arrangement” with God: please save my mom’s life, and I will help others in any way I can.
My mom’s cancer journey impacted my life far more than I could have ever imagined. It made me see life in a completely different way. Therefore, I am truly thankful that God heard my prayers. Once my mom was declared cancer-free, she became a volunteer at the Mary Joan Foundation. Shortly after, my dad and I also joined as volunteers.
When we became volunteers, I was asked to help with PR during the month of October every year, and for quite some time now, I’ve been helping inform our community about the Mary Joan Foundation. No, I haven’t counted the years I’ve been volunteering—it’s something I do from the heart. The years don’t matter to me; what matters is the act of helping. I volunteer not only to honor the promise I made and to show my gratitude to God, but because it gives me great satisfaction knowing I am helping my community. I believe that early detection of any illness is the key to prolonging a person’s precious life. Therefore, we need to constantly remind and educate our community.
