We had a great time visiting Foster Secondary College today!

It was a pleasure speaking with an engaged group of young people about their future pathways and the many tertiary education opportunities available after secondary school, including the scholarships that may be available to them.

Thank you to the staff and students for the warm welcome and thoughtful conversations. It's inspiring to see students thinking ahead and exploring what's possible for their futures!

Yesterday we had the pleasure of hosting Bass Coast Shire Council talented trainees to explore how we can continue supporting their education and professional development journeys. We’re excited to have them join our learning community here at CUC Bass Coast.

Through the Bass Coast Shire Council Traineeship Program, participants gain hands-on experience working on real-world projects, engaging with customers and community members, and developing practical skills across a wide range of areas, from People & Culture to Building Services and Customer & Visitor Experience, these young people are learning valuable skills day in day out.

The program provides an opportunity to explore career pathways, build valuable industry connections and gain an industry-recognised Certificate III in Business.

Our partnership with Bass Coast Shire Council plays an important role in building the capacity of our local workforce, and we’re proud to support the next generation of local professionals!

Not every pathway to higher education is linear, and Jarryd’s story is a great example of that.

Juggling part time work and four young kids at home, CUC Bass Coast has offered a quiet place to study away from distractions, as he’s now undertaking his Bachelor of Education.

He also recently joined the CUC Bass Coast team as our Widening Participation Officer, helping young people across the region explore their own pathways to higher education, and showing that there are many different paths to achieving your goals.

We are proud to have Jarryd on board, not only as a student but also equally delighted to have him leading the Future Bound program, inspiring and supporting local secondary students to explore their own education and career opportunities as regional students.

Thanks to Open Universities Australia for sharing Jarryd’s story!

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Supporting regional students to live, study and achieve locally 📚

Our newly launched 2027 Scholarship Guide, in partnership with South Gippsland Bass Coast Local Learning & Employment Network (SGBCLLEN), showcases a range of scholarships, grants and financial support available to regional students.

CUC Bass Coast Widening Participation Officer, Jarryd Blair, who leads the FutureBound program, said creating aspiration and awareness is a key focus of the work happening in local schools.

“We offer university taster experiences, including both incursions and excursions, and bring current university students out to visit local schools to help students see what’s possible for their future.”

The Scholarship Guide is another way we are helping local young people feel confident in exploring higher education and career opportunities close to home.

The 2027 Scholarship Guide is here! 🎓

CUC Bass Coast, in partnership with South Gippsland Bass Coast Local Learning & Employment Network (SGBCLLEN), is proud to launch our 2027 Scholarship Guide — helping regional secondary students discover scholarships, grants and support programs available to them.

Widening Participation Officer Jarryd Blair said the guide is designed to help students explore what’s possible for their future.

“With one in two of our students being the first in their family to study in higher education, this scholarship guide is an invaluable tool for regional secondary students to explore the financial support available to them.”

The guide is now available to download via our website here: https://www.cucbasscoast.edu.au/scholarship-guide/

Celebrating our 600th student at Country Universities Centre Bass Coast! 🎉

A huge congratulations to Mick Owens, Careers Coordinator at Bass Coast College, who has officially become our 600th registered student while studying a Graduate Certificate in Careers Counselling.

Mick has been an incredible advocate for CUC Bass Coast from day one, connecting and encouraging so many students to access local higher education opportunities and support through our centre. We truly couldn’t think of a more deserving recipient of our CUC hoodie and gift voucher!

“I’ve seen firsthand the difference CUC makes for students transitioning out of high school. It provides them with real opportunities to continue their studies while remaining local, connected to their community, and supported every step of the way,” Mick said.

Thank you, Mick, for your ongoing support, passion for student pathways and commitment to helping others pursue their study goals close to home. 👏📚

600 students and growing! 🎉

Since opening our doors in March 2021, CUC Bass Coast has officially supported 600 students through the Centre.

From day one, our goal has been to provide local students with access to higher education without having to leave their community, and we’re incredibly proud of all of the students we’ve been able to support so far.

Next week we’ll be revealing who our special 600th student is… stay tuned! 👀

Thank you to our incredible students, partners, staff, and wider community for being part of the journey so far. This is a huge milestone and we’re so excited for what’s ahead.
