Formed in 2001 the Migration Heritage Project has curated, designed and produced exhibitions, conducted workshops and presentations about the importance of preserving and promoting migrant heritage, provided resources to allow individuals and organisations to record their history, built an image database showcasing the many migrant communities and individuals in the Illawarra and researched the hi

story of migrants in the Illawarra from the early settlement by pioneers from diverse cultural backgrounds and from the post-World War Two immigration programme that the Illawarra played a significant role. The Migration Heritage Project is a group of volunteers who are passionate about showcasing the valuable and lasting contributions that migrants have made to the Illawarra. The MHP is not affiliated with any government or business interests and has strong support from the wider community.

The much anticipated public information session for the Museum of People Country and Industry (MPCI) was attended by over 50 individuals all eager to hear about the project plans. Speakers John Shipp, David Bottin, Craig Nealon and Franca Facci provided details on the concept, examples of stories to be told and plans on moving ahead.
