Tots2Teens Albury-Wodonga Supporting children and young people aged 0-18 and their families, escaping domestic and family violence across the Albury-Wodonga region.

I have worked as a Psychiatric Nurse, Case Manager and Alcohol worker for overf 30 years. I am constantly looking for ways to prevent trauma from affecting people long term, and hence we are continually trying to provide services that will help address this concern. Our trauma packs work on positive neurons, and help to reduce the long term effects of trauma on the brain.

💜Donor Spotlight💜

This week, we are so grateful to shine a light on Myer Albury and their incredible support of Tots2Teens over the past two years.

During that time, Myer Albury has contributed more than $13,000 to help us continue supporting local children and families experiencing domestic and family violence.

But their support has been about more than just a dollar amount.

The Myer team have been incredibly engaged, enthusiastic and genuinely wonderful to work alongside and we are so grateful for the time, effort and heart they've put into supporting what we do.

Every contribution helps us keep The Nest stocked and ensures we can continue providing children and families with the practical essentials, dignity and choice they need when beginning again.

Behind every donation is a decision to care about someone else's circumstances.

And when a local business chooses to stand alongside a local charity, that decision can ripple through an entire community.

Sometimes it's the little things...

A child leaving domestic and family violence may have had to leave behind their favourite toys, books, clothes and belongings.
So when they arrive at The Nest and get to choose something of their own, it might seem like a small thing.

But it's theirs
Something new
Something chosen for them
Something they don't have to share
Something that belongs to their new beginning
That's why we care so much about the things that fill our shelves
They're not just donations
They're comfort
They're choice
They're dignity
They're little pieces of normality during a time when very little feels normal

And that's why every contribution to Tots2Teens matters. Because while we can't change the situation, we can change the memory 💜

THE BORDER IN NUMBERS

That's the proportion of police-documented family violence cases in Wodonga in 2023–24 in which children were recorded as witnesses.

But we don't want you to see 34.6%
We want you to see the children behind it
The child sitting quietly in the next room
The child listening from their bedroom
The child who knows something isn't right but doesn't have the words to explain it
The child who may carry those experiences long after the incident itself is over

Children don't have to be the person being physically hurt to be affected by domestic and family violence.

They are part of the story

And that's why supporting children is such an important part of breaking the cycle.

Maybe it's sitting in the bottom of your handbag

On its own, $2 doesn't feel like much

But when our community comes together, those little donations help us keep The Nest stocked with the essentials local children and families need when they leave domestic and family violence.

This is why The Nest exists...

When a family leaves domestic and family violence, they're often stepping into an enormous amount of uncertainty.

Where will we sleep?
What will the kids wear?
How will I replace everything we've left behind?

The Nest exists to help answer some of those questions.

It's a place where families can come in, feel welcomed and choose the brand new essentials they need to begin again.

No judgement
No expectation
Just practical support, compassion and choice

Because after having so much control taken away, being able to choose something for yourself or for your child matters.

This little space in our community represents something much bigger:

Domestic and family violence isn't always visible

There might not be a bruise
There might not be a broken door
There might not be a police report

Sometimes abuse looks like being constantly monitored
Being isolated from family and friends
Having your money controlled
Being humiliated or threatened
Being made to feel like you're walking on eggshells in your own home

And sometimes, the person experiencing it has become so accustomed to these behaviours that they don't even recognise them as abuse anymore.

Abuse isn't defined by how visible it is.

It's about power, control, fear and the impact those behaviours have on someone's life.

Learning to recognise the signs matters

Because sometimes, understanding what you're seeing is the first step towards being able to support someone who needs it. 💜

Next in our Committee Spotlight is our wonderful committee member Julie Clarke

My name is Julie and I’m a general committee member of Tots2Teens.

I would say, I’m very much a local, I have lived in the area for majority of my life since moving from Melbourne as a teenager.

I am committed to my local community and passionate about people and issues that matter.
I completed a Diploma in community services in 2015 with the intent to further complete a social work degree. My path took me in a new trajectory into the care sector.

I am a proud mother of have 3 boys. I share the house with 3 cats, 1 dog and one lizard. When I’m not working you’ll find me in the garden, out walking and spending time with the family. It’s important for me to keep active and to maintain good mental health. I really am a home body and love pottering around the house. I really do love going away on holidays but I love the drive back into Albury. Home is where my heart is.

I have been involved with Tots2Teens for some years now. I believe in Tots2Teens mission and the determined focus. I’m committed on being productive committee member and honoured to work alongside this great group of volunteers.

Wow, what an incredible day at Bunnings Albury for our charity...

Over 900 sausages sold!! More than 50 loaves of bread, gone!

We are truly so thankful to everyone who came out to support us and our work for the community.

Every dollar we raised today will go to changing the lives of the parents and children who need our help the most 💜

A special thankyou to Baranduda General Store for storing our our drinks and keeping them cool before today and for our ice. And again to The Butcher at Arnold's Wodonga for our delicious sausages and onions! Year after year we are so grateful to receive the support from these local companies, without them we couldn't do what we do.

It's days like today that remind us just how incredible our border community is 💜 see you at the next one!
