Then it’s time to sing Happy Birthday and watch Pom Pom and her friends demolish their birthday feast! 🎂😂

🐔 Make Chicken Party Treats — create hanging veggie garlands and tasty enrichment treats for Pom Pom and her feathered friends to enjoy at the party.

🌸 Create Nature Chicken Art — explore the farm and garden collecting flowers, leaves, grasses and other natural treasures, then use them to decorate a beautiful chicken picture inspired by Pom Pom.

🍪 Make Chicken-Shaped Cookies — cut out their own chicken-themed cookies, ready to bake and enjoy as birthday party food.

🍋 Make Farmhouse Lemonade — squeeze fresh lemons and make delicious homemade lemonade, with the opportunity to gather fragrant herbs from the garden to add to our special party drink.

🐐 Visit Pom Pom’s Farm Friends — explore the farm and spend time with our goats, guinea pigs, chickens, ducks, quails and more, with loads of opportunities for feeding, gentle handling and cuddles.

📸 Birthday Photos with Pom Pom — visit our special “Pom Pom is FOUR!” birthday photo spot and capture some very cute birthday memories with our birthday girl! 🐔🎈

🎉 Celebrate Pom Pom’s 4th Birthday! — gather around Pom Pom’s decorated coop, sing Happy Birthday, present her with her cake and treats and watch Pom Pom and the chickens tuck into their special feast while the children enjoy their freshly baked chicken cookies and homemade lemonade.

Along the way, children will learn:

🌱 How we can use natural, seasonal ingredients to create healthy enrichment treats for chickens.
🐔 How to safely and gently interact with chickens and other farm animals.
🌿 How materials found in nature can be used creatively for art and play.

🔥🌿 What an incredible day at our Bushcraft & Survival Skills School Holiday Program! 🌿🔥

Today our young survivalists stepped into the great outdoors, learning practical skills that could one day make all the difference.

The challenge? Imagine you’re lost in the Australian bush. What do you do first?

One of the first things we learned was the Rule of 3s of Survival. The children imagined they were lost in the bush and discussed the priorities that give you the best chance of staying safe until you’re rescued:

🌬️ 3 minutes without air
🥶 3 hours without shelter in harsh weather
💧 3 days without water
🍽️ 3 weeks without food

Rather than panicking, the children learned to stop, think, stay calm and tackle each survival priority one step at a time.

⛺ Our first mission was building a shelter. The children learned how to position their shelter to capture the warmth of the morning sun while protecting themselves from the cold winter winds. Working together, they built an impressive teepee shelter using natural materials found around the farm.

💧 Next came water. Following the Rule of 3s, the children created their own water filtration systems using layers of grass, charcoal, sand and pebbles. Watching muddy water flow through the filters and come out remarkably clear amazed everyone! We also talked about why filtered water still needs to be sterilised before it’s safe to drink.

🔥 Then came one of the highlights of the day… FIRE! Using ferro rods (flint and steel), the children worked in pairs to create sparks and build a fire. Every single team successfully lit their own fire, and the excitement and cheers when those first flames appeared were unforgettable!

With a strong fire going, we boiled our filtered water to make it safe before brewing a delicious pot of fresh rosemary tea from the garden. We finished our survival adventure the best way possible—sharing hot chocolate, toasting marshmallows around the campfire, and reflecting on everything we’d accomplished together.

Throughout the day, the children also had the chance to investigate an Arapuca bird trap we had set up. They were fascinated by the ingenious design and learned how people have traditionally used natural materials and simple mechanics to catch food in true survival situations.

Of course, no day at the farm would be complete without plenty of animal cuddles. 🐐🐥 The children spent time with our adorable baby goats and baby chicks, visited the quails, and enjoyed cuddles with our friendly chickens and ducks.

Watching the children’s confidence grow throughout the day was something truly special. They learned that survival isn’t about being fearless—it’s about staying calm, thinking clearly, working together and using the knowledge you have.

Thank you to all of our wonderful families for another unforgettable day on the farm. We hope your children came home a little dirtier, a little more confident, and with memories they’ll be talking about for a long time to come. 🌿❤️
