House Conspiracy

House Conspiracy A homely community arts centre providing residencies and creative spaces for emerging artists.

A small group of artists, writers and practitioners developed the concept for House Conspiracy 2017 after consultation with the West End and Brisbane arts communities. The name House Conspiracy began with Courtyard Conspiracy in 2013 in a local backyard as a place for musicians, artists, and poets to exhibit, perform and share ideas. This pop-up community hub morphed into Roving Conspiracy, which

followed the same idea but at different venues. In March 2016, Roving Conspiracy was held at 42 Mollison Street, West End, eventually becoming House Conspiracy with the generous support of the house’s anonymous owner.

After nearly 7 years of experimentation, we'll be premiering a very special film about House Conspiracy (just in time for our 10th anniversary!). Artists in Residence is a 38 minute experimental documentary featuring several... artists in residence.

The filmmakers: Joseph Lynch, Charlton Lansley and Ethan Bourke have created a visually stunning treat that takes you through the house by jumping in and out of projections that serve as an almost patchwork quilt of the different types of art and artists that have called this place home. It's ultimately a celebration of grassroots art and an ode to the little rebel Queenslander that refused to budge to developers.

So much love has been put into this little 'art house' film and the filmmakers would be honoured to see it for the first time with you all at the place it all began. Doors at 6pm for a 7pm start.

Tickets:
Because House Conspiracy has limited seating available this event will be ticketed with a pay what you feel reservation which will be posted soon. All proceeds will be donated to House Conspiracy.

We’re thrilled to introduce our latest artist in residence, Milan Mac Mahon aka !!

“Milan is an emerging multimedia artist investigating the rise of new-wave misogyny online, specifically the manosphere. Through self-portraiture, text, and video works, they interlace humour with facts to critically unpack the language and myths of digital subcultures, making underlying ideologies visible and understandable to wider audiences.

Currently, they are researching how incel culture has evolved and manifested in contemporary mainstream culture through certain memes and vocabulary. Guided by research from feminist authors such as Laura Bates and Cynthia Miller-Idriss, as well as research into past and present incel forums and websites, they hope that by understanding its history in online spaces, we can prevent others from being indoctrinated into similar extremist ideologies.”

Milan's residency showcase "GIGA FOID" opens on Saturday 11th of April. Full event details via link in bio.

House Conspiracy proudly presents "Beautifully rotting", a solo exhibition by Gemma Raponi - aka

Saturday 31st of January
5pm - 9pm

42 Mollison Street, West End
Free entry!

"Beautifully Rotting explores mortality as a return rather than an ending. Through vivid colour, botanical motifs, and ethereal forms, Gemma Raponi reflects on the body’s journey home—to the earth that gives us energy, sustains us, and ultimately asks for it in return.

Embracing decay as tender and transformative, this exhibition invites viewers to see death as a quiet exchange: a process where the body dissolves, nourishes the land, and continues within the cycle of renewal."

We’re excited to introduce our current artist in residence, Gemma Raponi aka !!

“Gemma Raponi is a multidisciplinary artist based in Meanjin whose vivid, botanical imagery explores grief, mortality, and the body’s return to nature—using bright colour and ethereal forms to reimagine death as a tender, transformative cycle rather than an ending.

Working across paints, watercolours, inks, pens, and pencils, she creates delicate yet deliberate works that sit between the tangible and the spiritual, inviting quiet reflection on life, decay, and renewal."

Gemma Raponi's residency showcase is coming up - on Saturday 31st of January. Keep your peepers on House Conspiracy's socials for more details!

We’re thrilled to introduce our latest artist in residence, Vinh S – aka .s.recordings !!

Vinh Angus Sutherland is a neurodivergent artist born and raised in Brisbane. During the lockdown, he began experimenting with black marker art, creating zany and true-to-life characters purely from imagination. He soon transitioned to black ink pens, shifting his focus to capturing his immediate surroundings.

His unique, self-taught line work documents his world – from the intimacy of his own room to the streets and people found between Moorooka and The Gabba.

Vinh’s next adventure is writing short stories. He writes under the persona of John Haw Writer (JHW), a rude, self-pitying character of half-British, half-French descent. In Vinh's stories, JHW lives through the trauma of a fictional timeline where the Cold War escalated into an "East-West War."

Vinh Sutherland’s residency showcase is coming up – Friday 19th December.
