Indian Support Center Inc

Indian Support Center Inc Consequently with the growing numbers, the community issues have become more complex.

Indian Support Center is supporting the community in areas such as new migrant settlement, job search for new arrivals and domestic violence, Digital Literacy for Seniors, Digital Health Awareness and other critical areas for the community. Indians migration to Australia started in the late sixties with professionals such as doctors, teachers and engineers being amongst the first of the skilled m

igrants arrived in to Australia. Over the last couple of decades, the number of Indian Australians has increased in manifold and it is estimated that about 500, 000 people of Indian origin now call Australia as their home. It is further estimated that two-thirds or about 200,000 Indians live in New South Wales, with a sizable presence in Western Sydney and its surrounded suburbans. Efforts have been put in place by a number of Indian organisations in NSW for over five decades to create institutions to address such issues. The Council of Indian Australians is one such institution that was created in 2010 to support the India community. While a lot of support was provided to the community through the Council of Indian Australians, the outcome was far from satisfaction. Therefore a strong need was felt to create a physical office, which will act as a focal point of contact and the proposed services can be delivered from such location. Some of the senior members of the Council of Indian Australians conceptualised the idea of creation of such Support Center and put up a funding proposal to the NSW Government. Thanks to the NSW Government – the funding proposal was approved and a formal launch of the Center took place on 13th March 2015 through a brief launch function at the Allan EzzyCenter in Pemulwuy, NSW. Minister Victor Dominello, the then Minister for Citizenship and Communities launched the Center and the grant cheque was presented to the Council of Indian Australians by Mr Andrew Rohan, the then Member of the NSW Parliament from Smithfield. The Indian community is grateful to the NSW Government for supporting the community in this strategic project that is expected to have long lasting impact on the Indian community of NSW. The Council of Indian Australians, while taking a look at the complexity of the project, made a formal decision to create the Center as an independent organization and create a separate identity. It was perceived that such an organization would be ideal to provide services to all people from Indian origin. It is keeping this above issues in mind, the Indian Support Center was conceptualized and resulted in the birth of the Center in March 2015.
