🧡 Congratulations to the school counsellors, student services officers, educators and case managers from the Department for Education, South Australia who recently completed ASIST (Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training).

Over two days, participants built on their existing knowledge and strengthened their confidence and practical skills to recognise when someone may be thinking about su***de, have life-saving conversations, and help connect them to immediate safety and support.

The experience and dedication these professionals bring to supporting young people and vulnerable members of our community made for an incredibly engaged and impactful workshop.

Thank you to everyone who took part and for your ongoing commitment to supporting the wellbeing of others. Together, we're building stronger networks of safety across our communities. 💛

🧡 A big shoutout to everyone who recently completed MATES Respond Training at the BESIX Watpac Adelaide Airport Expansion Project.

Respond Training equips leaders and workers with the confidence and practical skills to support their teams following a critical incident, su***de or traumatic event, helping workplaces respond with care, compassion and confidence.

It was also great to deliver our recently updated Respond program, with participants sharing positive feedback on the new content and its relevance to today's workplaces.

Last week our Field Officers, Matt and Marilyn were recognised by LivingWorks Australia for their ongoing contribution to su***de prevention training and the impact they continue to make through safeTALK and ASIST.

Between them, they have supported thousands of people to build the confidence and skills to recognise when someone may be struggling and connect them with support.

👏 Marilyn Sheffield

- ASIST Trainer since 2022

Marilyn was also presented with a LivingWorks safeTALK Gold Award, recognising her outstanding achievement in delivering safeTALK.

These numbers represent much more than training sessions, they represent thousands of people across workplaces and communities in South Australia who are now better equipped to notice when someone may be doing it tough, start a conversation and help connect them with support.

A huge congratulations to Matt and Marilyn, and thank you for the commitment, care and energy you continue to bring to MATES and the people we work alongside. 🧡👏

🧡 Over the past few weeks, the MATES team has been busy delivering General Awareness Talks (G*Ts) across South Australia.

We've had the privilege of delivering G*Ts to workers from Hindmarsh (Lot 51 Bowden), PEER (Combined Electrical & Plumbing), Mossop Construction + Interiors (Endeavour College), Tandem at Gepps Cross, St Patrick's Technical College, Carrabay , Built (AFS Tower 2) and through a toolbox talk with the T&ND team.

Our General Awareness Talk (G*T) helps build mental health awareness, giving workers the confidence to recognise when someone may be doing it tough, start a conversation and understand how to connect a mate to support.

A big thank you to every organisation for prioritising the mental health and wellbeing of their people and helping create workplaces where looking out for your mates is part of everyday culture.

We’re proud to welcome the South Australian Building Industry Redundancy Scheme Trust (BIRST) as the 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿 of Swing for a Cause – the 2026 Mt Pleasant Charity Golf Day, supporting 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗦 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗔 and 𝗖𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮.

BIRST will also be bringing some extra excitement to the course as sponsor of our $20,000 CASH Hole-in-One Challenge. 🏌️💰

Golfers will have the opportunity to take their shot at the $20,000 cash prize, with funds raised through the challenge shared between both charities.

Since 1989, BIRST has supported South Australia’s construction workforce, helping provide financial security for eligible workers and their families. We’re incredibly grateful to have their support behind a day that brings industry and community together to raise vital funds for two very different South Australian causes.
