Sometimes “I’m fine” is just someone trying to get through the day.

Still showing up.
Still working.
Still carrying more than people realise.

Burnout doesn’t always look dramatic, sometimes it just looks like exhaustion hiding in plain sight.

💛 Short story is, make sure you check in on your mates.

A huge shoutout to the team at Claridge Construction for continuing to prioritise mental health across both their sites and workplace. 🧡

Long hours.
Fuel prices.
Bills.
Overtime.
Trying to provide for everyone else while carrying pressure yourself.
🤯🤯

A lot of workers are feeling it right now.

And sometimes stress doesn’t look dramatic, it just looks like exhaustion, irritability, or shutting down.

That’s why MATES exists.

To make conversations around mental health feel normal, to build support on site, and to remind workers they don’t have to carry everything alone.

Connectors aren’t counsellors — they’re mates who know how to recognise when someone’s struggling, start a conversation, and connect them to support. 🧡

A big shoutout to everyone who recently completed MATES Connector Training and stepped up to support mental health across our industry.

Not everyone says they’re struggling.

Sometimes people just go quiet.
They seem flat.
Withdrawn.
Tired all the time.
Or they keep showing up every day pretending everything’s okay.

In construction and allied industries, a lot of people carry pressure silently - work stress, financial pressure, long hours, family responsibilities, burnout.

That’s why checking in matters.

You don’t need to have all the answers. Sometimes a simple conversation can make a real difference.

Because looking after your mental health and looking out for your mates, should feel normal on every site.

💛 If something doesn’t feel right, trust your gut and start the conversation.

One week ago today, more than 560 people came together at Adelaide Oval for the 2026 MATES SA Annual Lunch. 💛

A week later, the conversations, stories and support shared throughout the room are still sitting with us.

The day was a powerful reminder that our industry is continuing to show up for one another — helping break down stigma, encourage conversations and create workplaces where people feel supported both on and off site.

From the incredible support of our sponsors and partners, to every individual who attended, donated, shared a conversation or checked in on a mate — thank you.

Because this work goes far beyond one event.

Every conversation started, every person trained and every moment someone chooses to speak up or reach out has the power to make a difference.

We’re incredibly proud of what was achieved together and grateful to be part of an industry continuing to drive change across construction and allied industries.

One site. One conversation. One mate at a time.

💛 Thank you to our Major Event Sponsor CBUS Super, along with all of our event sponsors and partners including BIRST, Incolink, CFMEU SA, ReturnToWorkSA, Progressive Vending, Consolidated Power Projects, Alexander Symonds, Fleurieu Cranes, Portable Long Service Leave SA, CEPU SA, Specialist Contractors Association, Vertigo High Access SA, Symal, Altrad RMD Kwikform Chile and Hansen Yuncken for helping make the event possible.

✨ 𝟓𝟔𝟒 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞. 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫.

What an incredible day at the 2026 MATES SA Annual Lunch.

With 564 people filling Adelaide Oval, this year’s event was a powerful reflection of an industry continuing to stand up for mental health, su***de prevention and the importance of looking out for one another.

Together, we shared honest conversations, powerful stories and raised significant funds to help MATES continue delivering life-saving training, early intervention and on-site support across South Australia’s construction and allied industries.

We were also incredibly grateful to hear the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Hon. Joe Szakacs MP announce the South Australian Government’s renewed funding commitment to MATES in Construction SA, with more than $340,000 committed over the next four years to continue supporting mental health and su***de prevention initiatives across the construction industry.

The announcement reinforced the importance of this work, with construction workers still significantly more likely to die by su***de than by a workplace accident.

We also sincerely thank Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care Hon. Mark Butler MP and Minister Hon. Joe Szakacs for joining us and showing their support for the work being done across our industry.

A huge thank you to our keynote speaker Brooke McIntosh, along with the industry voices who shared firsthand insight into the impact MATES is having across our worksites and workplaces every day.

A special thank you as well to Michael from Arch Real Estate for donating his time as auctioneer, and to every business and individual who generously donated raffle and live auction items in support of the day.
