Real empowerment isn't about having every problem solved for you.

It's about having opportunities to learn, practise, make choices and discover what you're capable of.

For someone rebuilding after homelessness or significant hardship, everyday achievements can become important milestones.

Managing a responsibility independently.

Learning a new skill.

Speaking confidently.

Making a plan and following through.

These moments build something powerful: belief in your own ability to move forward.

Sometimes supporting a local organisation can be as simple as choosing where to place a token.

If you visit Grill’d Browns Plains this September, look out for the Sheltered by Grace Local Matters jar.

Pop your token in and help support the work we do alongside people experiencing homelessness.

And if you know someone who loves a good burger, tag them below and let them know where to put their token! 🍔👇

Words like "homeless" can quickly become labels.

But a housing situation tells you very little about a person.

It doesn't tell you what they have achieved.

What they're good at.

What made them laugh before life became difficult.

Who they love.

What they want to accomplish next.

Every person deserves to be recognised as more than their circumstances.

This week, let's challenge ourselves to see people before labels — and dignity before assumptions.

There’s an easy way to turn your meal into a little extra support for our community.

Throughout September, Sheltered by Grace has a Local Matters jar at Grill’d Browns Plains.

After your meal, place your Local Matters token in our jar and cast your vote for Sheltered by Grace. 💚

It takes just a moment, but together those tokens add up.

So if Grill’d is on the menu this week, we’d love your vote!

Some people donate.

Some volunteer.

Some share professional skills.

Some introduce us to people who can help.

And some simply share our message so another person learns about the work we do.

There isn't only one way to make a difference.

Today, we're grateful for every person, family and business that chooses to contribute in whatever way they can.

When a community brings different strengths together, the impact becomes much greater than any one of us could achieve alone.

Thank you for being part of ours.

Homelessness isn't always visible.

Someone may be sleeping in their car, moving between friends' homes, staying in temporary accommodation or living somewhere that is unsafe or severely overcrowded.

They may still go to work. Their children may still attend school. People around them may have no idea what they're experiencing.

Understanding hidden homelessness challenges the stereotype that homelessness only means sleeping rough.

The more accurately we understand the issue, the better equipped we are to respond with compassion rather than assumptions.

Imagine you had one hour to teach someone a useful skill you've learned in life.

What would you choose?

🍳 Cooking a simple meal?
💰 Creating a budget?
💼 Preparing for a job interview?
🔧 Fixing something around the house?
💻 Using technology?

Practical knowledge can empower people in ways we sometimes overlook.

Wellbeing isn't simply feeling good.

It can involve learning routines, recognising stress, developing healthier habits, improving communication and understanding what supports you physically and emotionally.

These are skills that can be developed.

Through SBG's wellbeing-focused programs, participants are encouraged to build practical tools they can apply beyond a single session or difficult moment.

Because the goal isn't simply to feel better today.

It's to become better equipped to navigate tomorrow.
