Thirty years ago on the night of June 12, 1996 Australia suffered a significant tragedy and loss where we lost 18 soldiers and 12 were injured when two Black Hawk helicopters collided during counter-terrorism training operations.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the survivors, the family and friends of the brave soldiers we lost and those who were injured and those first on scene.

Alongside our Sporting Partners Invictus Australia we are proud to host the Oceania Veteran Esports League (OVEL) Rocket League Tournament for 2026! 🏆

Open to all members of the Australian Defence community, including:
All Current & Former Serving Members of the ADF and Veteran Families

Whether you’re highly competitive or just keen to get involved, this tournament is all about: Connection, Teamwork, Community and Fun competition.

12 July 2026 – Team Registration Cut-Off

29 August OR 5 September 2026 – Top 8 Finals

Did you know numerous of our amazing Volunteers support a wide range of volunteer activities across the wider community? From volunteering with veteran and family orgs, disaster relief and recovery, mental health and many more.

Over the weekend two of our volunteers, our CEO Sam and his wife Row were helping raise crucial funds for the Black Dog Institute as part of the 50/50 volunteer team, as a duo they raised over $3,000 on the night with a total team collective of $52,000 supporting the important work of Black Dog Institute.

Why do Veteran Gaming Australia and Invictus Australia invest in Esports and healthy community initiatives?

Because it's about people.

For many current and former serving members, leaving Defence can mean losing daily connection, teamwork and camaraderie.

Gaming helped bridge that gap for us. It brought back communication, healthy competition, shared goals and a sense of belonging.

It's about finding your tribe.
Building friendships.
Supporting one another.
And staying connected to a community that understands your journey.

With the big gaming showcases just around the corner, it's shaping up to be an exciting week for gamers everywhere.

🎮 PlayStation State of Play – 3 June, 7:00am AEST
🎮 Summer Game Fest – 6 June, 7:00am AEST
🎮 Xbox Games Showcase – 8 June, 3:00am AEST

For many of our team, it will be an early start. Up at 6:00am, getting in a one-hour warm-up, workout and stretch as part of the Invictus Australia ZERO600 challenge, then settling in to watch the PlayStation State of Play and Summer Game Fest. Not a bad way to start the day.

There are plenty of games we're hoping to see more of, including:
Grand Theft Auto VI
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
Fable
Gears of War: E-Day
The Witcher 4

And of course, we're always keen to see some surprise announcements, new indie gems, and a few "one more thing" moments that get everyone talking.
