On Wednesday 12 August 2026, our Brigade was greeted by around 60 smiling little faces at the Little Saints Early Learning Centre in Peregian Springs!
We were invited by the Centre for a Q&A session on bushfire awareness and preparedness coinciding with ‘Child Safety Week' which focused on teaching young children about community safety, who keeps them safe and who they can trust in an emergency.
The childrens’ enthusiasm was incredible and they kept us on our toes with plenty of questions about all things fire, preparedness and emergency response procedures. They enjoyed some fire-related merchandise including activity books, games and stickers, inspected our fire truck and received a big send-off with a light and sirens show!🚨🚨
A huge thanks to Ashlee and Danielle for inviting us and we hope it was as rewarding for the children just as much as it was for us.

🚨Verrierdale residents please note in case of smoke in the area tomorrow Wednesday 12 August 2026🚨

The Noosa Council fire team have advised us that they, in collaboration with the Doonan Rural Fire Brigade, are planning undertaking a small, 12 ha prescribed burn within Weyba Nature Refuge, corner of Old Hollett and Tidswell Road, Doonan.

At this stage, this burn is currently planned to be undertaken on Wednesday 12th August, dependent on weather conditions.

The purpose of this burn is to reduce fine fuels and promote natural regeneration of the bush.

If you experience smoke, their general advice is:

- Vehicles must slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on when driving around a smoke affected area.
- Sightseers must keep away for their own safety.
- People with respiratory (or other health) problems should take reliever medicine for smoke inhalation and seek medical advice.
- Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke from entering homes.
- Remove washing from lines.
- Secure pets.

At this stage crews will be onsite from 09:30 and ignition will be sometime shortly after. The duration is expected to be around 8 hrs however, will be ongoing until deemed safe.

A smoke hazard will be issued by QFD.

On Wednesday, 29 July 2026, Craig and Andrew S from our Brigade attended Noosa District Senior High School's Careers and Pathways Expo to discuss training and career pathway opportunities for young people aged 16–18 in the Rural Fire Service (RFS).

Craig and Andrew spoke with students about how our Brigade supports the local community and discussed the training requirements and the different career options available to junior members beyond fire fighting.

Our display was warmly received with several student groups eager to learn more about joining the RFS, and we’re hopeful this will lead to some new junior recruits soon✨

A big thank you to Noosa District Senior High School for inviting us. We appreciated the opportunity!

🔥During RFSQ Week (26 July -2 August) we acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding effort and commitment that thousands of Queensland volunteers make to their communities.
Volunteer fire brigade members play a vital role in supporting their community with over 27000 volunteers across 1400 brigades making up the Rural Fire Service in Queensland.

At Verrierdale Rural Fire Brigade, we truly appreciate the incredible work our members do. Their skills, experience, effort, teamwork, time, and dedication are invaluable, and the role they play is essential to our community. Every effort matters, whether it’s fighting fires, community education including at schools, administrative support or training hard to keep skills sharp and capabilities strong. All of it vital to our brigade.

Six of our Brigade members recently completed both Level 1 and Level 2 Nationally Accredited Chainsaw training, delivered by LT Training who are a Rural Fire Service Training Provider.

Both courses took place over two consecutive Saturdays and was conducted at our Fire Station. The Level 2 course was wrapped up at a property in Verrierdale where our members put their newly learnt skills into practice and were assessed to fell large trees.

Our members thoroughly enjoyed their training, gaining valuable skills to boost our Brigade’s capability and skill set for the community esoecially for the appeoaching storm season.

Well done to our course participants!🎉A big thanks to Lawrence and Theo from LT Training for their well organised course facilitation.

June 10th is ‘Thank a First Responder Day,’ a time to recognize and give heartfelt thanks to our Brigade members who support our community during fires and crises.

We’re deeply grateful to all our Fire Brigade members who show up, step up, and stand strong when they’re needed most. They bring skill, courage, and compassion in the face of uncertainty and immense challenges to keep our community safe.

Remember, all our Brigade members are volunteers, each with families—partners, children, parents, relatives, and friends—who quietly support them as they do what they do best.

National Volunteer Week – 18–23 May 2026

It’s time to recognise and celebrate our incredible community volunteers!

Running from 18 - 23 May 2026, National Volunteer Week shines a light on the more than 27,000 volunteers in the Queensland Fire Department. These dedicated individuals serve across the Rural Fire Service Queensland and Queensland Fire and Rescue as volunteer firefighters, scientific officers, peer support officers, search and rescue dog handlers, admin support officers, and chaplains.

This week is all about thanking our volunteers for their time, effort, and commitment in supporting their peers and communities in ANY role. Take a moment to reflect on the immense contributions they make and the invaluable role they play with Queensland communities.

With a dangerous fire season on the horizon, now’s the perfect time to tidy up your home and property.

A Fire Permit is required for any fire larger than 2 metres in any direction. You can download a digital 'Application for Permit to Light' form from the Queensland Fire Department to complete prior to contacting the Fire Warden.
