Join us for a special weekend of creativity, culture and connection as Malang Artists Together takes part in Lake Mac Open Studios! 🖤💛❤️

This exhibition brings together a talented group of local Aboriginal artists, showcasing original artworks that celebrate culture, Country and community.

Malang Art Raffle 2026

We’re proud to bring together two incredible First Nations artists for this year’s Malang Art Raffle, Wonnarua artist Saretta Fielding and Walain, Worimi and Biripi artist Maree Simon-Ahoy.

First Prize: Gathering Across Country by Saretta Fielding

This stunning 1m x 1m original artwork by Wonnarua artist Saretta Fielding is inspired by the sandstone carvings found throughout Wollombi. Saretta brings this rock carving style into her contemporary practice through textured techniques, vibrant colour and traditional Aboriginal symbols, sharing stories of culture, connection and Country.

Second Prize: Salt Water People Collection by Maree Simon-Ahoy

Maree Simon-Ahoy is a proud Aboriginal artist belonging to the Walain, Worimi and Biripi Nations and has spent most of her life living on Awabakal Country (Newcastle). Her art brings together both her mother’s and father’s cultures with contemporary imagery, creating works that celebrate culture, connection and storytelling.

The Salt Water People Collection includes:

• Original Framed Artwork – Salt Water People (40 x 50 cm)
• Medium Table Runner featuring the Salt Water People design
• 2 x 45 x 45 cm Cushion Covers featuring the matching artwork

Amazing job Levi Fielding on creating this years indigenous jersey for the Toronto Macquarie Scorpions Junior RLFC

💚💛 2026 Indigenous Jersey Reveal 💛💚

We are incredibly proud to unveil our 2026 Macquarie Scorpions Junior Indigenous Jersey, designed by talented local Indigenous artist Levi Fielding.

The artwork tells the story of who we are as a club. It represents our players standing together as one team, surrounded by the families, friends, coaches and supporters who encourage them every step of the way. Woven throughout the design are Elder symbols, recognising the people who guide us, inspire us and help shape our journeys.

With around one-third of our players identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, this jersey is a celebration of the rich Indigenous culture that is such an important part of our club and our community.

One of the things we are most proud of is that every player will receive their own Indigenous Jersey at absolutely no cost to them or their family.

Tomorrow, National Reconciliation Week begins. Reconciliation is deeply woven through a lot of what we do, and the story’s that we share are depicted within many digital /original pieces like: Konara Kintay Malang. reflecting the power of community, shared knowledge and walking forward together.

Konara Kintay Malang – Community Celebrate Together

This vibrant sand engraved artwork depicts community connection on country, bringing an acknowledgement to traditional custodians across our Nation and celebrating our journey forward together.

Central to the design, (4) connected gathering circles interwoven within pathways of traditional people symbols depicts going forward together around shared vision towards closing the gap for Indigenous people, through Education and Holistic Health.

Elders’ symbols within the design depict passing on of knowledge across the generations and brings a welcome to others to share in celebrating the world’s oldest rich and living culture.

📣Calling all Worimi artists 📣

Expressions of Interest are now open for Worimi artists to create artwork for an Acknowledgment of Country sign as part of the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace.

The selected artwork will recognise the enduring connection of Worimi people to Country and be displayed prominently along the bypass.

The team at Malang had an awesome time the other week running a workshop for some of the teachers at the Waratah Project.

The day started with Saretta sharing some of her story, cultural background, and where some of her painting techniques originated from. She then demonstrated different ways of blending oil pastels and etching, focusing mainly on colours and its meaning within country and place, and also how to implement the use of traditional symbols. Saretta then help the class paint their own stories.

The participants gathered together to share the stories behind their artwork. It was such an amazing day.
