LNP brings in new taxes on e-bike riding.

Under the regulations published for the Queensland E-Bike Assurance Scheme, the maximum costs have been set to $50 for the inspection and $20 for the compliance label.

This scheme applies to safe e-bikes manufactured before 1 July 2026 that meet the core safety requirements (maximum 250W continuous power, 25 km/h motor cutoff) but lack the official EN 15194 factory certification marking.

It also provides a compliance pathway for certain adaptive e-trikes used by people with a disability or medical condition.

E-bike owners have until 28 February 2027 to get their existing non-certified bikes inspected and labeled to continue riding them legally in public spaces.

Advocacy groups, including Bicycle Queensland, initially pushed for the government to absorb the scheme's sticker costs, but the final mandate dictates that both the inspection and labeling fees will be billed directly to the customer.

The state government is expected to publish full details regarding authorized verification centers and the exact rollout procedure before 1 October 2026.

Day 3: Nudgee Beach to Everton Park circuit.

Despite earlier predictions of unsettled, showery weather our group ride in Brisbane today enjoyed a picture perfect day for a pedal. Ride Leader Sandy once again introduced the Toowoomba riders to a circuit through multiple suburbs using a, mostly, connected set of shared pathways and bikeways which track through the many suburban parklands and natural watercourses that discharge into Moreton Bay.

The group was impressed with a cyclist friendly solo barista on the route. When told that there were 19 of us he replied, “easy”, and promptly served up a very good coffee.

The ride ended where it began, right on Nudgee Beach, with everyone enjoying a third day’s ride in places where most of us had never cycled before. We were amazed at the cycling infrastructure and could only dream of similar in Toowoomba. Well, not completely accurate. TRBUG continues to relentlessly advocate for improved Active Transport infrastructure in our region. Because we know it can be done and when it is done, it is used - providing safe, connected, separated pathways that allow people to walk, ride and scoot instead of drive.

Many thanks to Sandy who organised the three day ride and lead the rides each day. It is not an easy task, especially with a large group of 19 riders on unfamiliar routes. Well done, Sandy and we plan to return next winter!

Day 2: Redcliffe Circuit.

Today Ride Leader Sandy escorted the group on a voyage of discovery of the bikeways and shared pathways around Redcliffe. After some early morning rain, the day’s rides commenced under overcast skies but with a very pleasant temperature. Yesterday the group had to contend with two snakes on paths. Today, no snakes, only a scrub turkey intent on building a mound in the middle of the path entirely unconcerned with 19 cyclists veering around it. And a group of peafowl that decided to cross the road in front of the back half of the group.

After lunch the sun appeared making the bayside waters sparkle and glisten once again as the group pedalled back into Redcliffe. Our ride’s destination was the marvellous Bee Gee Way laneway in Redcliffe which was a first time visit for most of the riders.

Many thanks to Sandy for a superb ride. All the Toowoomba riders were amazed at the excellent Active Transport infrastructure in this Bayside locality.
