"Divisiveness is Canberra’s drug of addiction."

Great article from Malcolm Knox about the need for a national, multi-party emergency cabinet on climate change.

This has been clear for a long time - the nuclear policy is just about extending the life of fossil fuels. I'm more interested in extending the life of actual livings beings instead.

A Dutton government would keep coal working hard for much longer under its nuclear policy, while renewables would provide only a little over half the electricity generated in 2050.

As usual, both newscomau and Natalie Barr have buried the lede - the latest polling indicates that we are headed towards a minority government. This will grant a handful of independents an enormous amount of power in choosing who to form government with, and what policies will form the national agenda. And wouldn't it be just swell if one of those very powerful people were representing you?

Sometimes, the maths just doesn’t maths.

A lot of people are posting this and making fun of Fletcher for getting cranky because people don't vote for him (poor baby!) but I'd like to take a moment to look at it from the perspective of journalism best practices and its ultimate purpose - to hold power to account.

Shane Wright, apparently and embarrasssingly a senior correspondent, has clearly received a speech from an elected official.

He has reprinted quotes from it and summarised it without critique, analysis, or opposition.

He's then included a handful of lines about the government, including an unrelated story about a now-abandoned deal between the ALP and the Greens, no doubt chosen to highlight the 'chaos' that Fletcher insists will ensue when governments have to - gasp! - negotiate with other elected officials.

Shane, this isn't journalism, this is PR. This is the very picture of being someone's useful idiot.

Opposition communications spokesman Paul Fletcher, facing a battle against an independent at the next election, says teals had duped traditional Coalition supporters.

There's more to this story, and parking is obviously an important part of local government planning, but so sweet to see that Smoke & Mirrors's Madeline reparks her customers cars while they try on clothes!

😮 Find out what this business owner does to help customers avoid punishing parking fines: 👉 https://bit.ly/49iqDbJ
