The 4th of May is St Florian's day, or International Firefighters Day, honouring the bravery and dedication of fire crews worldwide.

We value and appreciate the ongoing dedication and commitment of all our volunteers at Tinonee brigade.

Each year the RFS present awards to volunteers and staff who have displayed exceptional bravery protecting community or delivering the highest level of commitment to the service.

On 4th of May 2026, members of the Tinonee, Taree and Lansdowne Rural Fire Brigades received the Commissioner's Unit Citation For Service for their exemplary conduct and courage in response to the Kundle Moto Brigade truck roll-over.

Representatives from the three Brigades travelled to the NSW RFS Training Academy in Dubbo to receive the award on behalf of the Brigades.

Thought we would share our Federal Member’s note to our Captain Bruce Annetts. Bruce tries to hide from all photos and posts. But here it is:
Thank you Alison Penfold MP for acknowledging him and all our other RFS Medal recipients in Parliament.

Please delay your planned burns. Brigades are responding to fires at Nabiac, Markwell, Bunyah, Bulga Road and Bungwahl. Some are contained but your crews have been out constantly for days.
Do you really need to do that burn? If so you must have notified RFS on line, notified your neighbours, have water, equipment, watch the winds, stay with the burn at all times, and call 000 immediately if it gets out of control. Your burn is your responsabity.

Your brigades have been out there trying to contain fires all week, we even got called out during a wake for a valued life member. Even though the bush fire danger period is officially finished, landowners need to take extreme care of undertaking a notified burn. If you haven’t notified don’t light it. We have had so many call outs to escaped burns. We are volunteers and our time is valuable and we are taken away from our families. Help us keep you safe by doing the right thing. Hard to believe this danger is occurring now.

Please take care!
