There's never been a better time to make an EOFY donation to Outward Bound Australia! Every dollar donated will help bring our ambitious $700k for 70 Years initiative to life and transform young lives through experiential outdoor education. That means more scholarships for disadvantaged young people and funding for programs delivered in partnership with community organisations.

We're also investing in a brighter future for our participants through the development of the new Tharwa Community Centre and expansion into new program locations, ensuring young people can access learning opportunities that are as diverse as they are adventurous.

Thank you to all the incredible alumni who joined us for our Fisherman’s Point cruise today, and for generously sharing your stories and experiences. Your reflections are a powerful reminder of the lifelong impact of Outward Bound and the enduring strength of this community.

We began the day with a relaxed coffee catch-up overlooking the river before boarding the Riverboat Postman for a scenic cruise through what can only be described as paradise. Along the journey, we paused at Bar Island to explore its history and share stories from Outward Bound’s own past. We then made our way up to the memorial dedicated to two OBA guides who paid the ultimate price in service to others.

As we continued toward Fisherman’s Point, a sea eagle watched from a towering gumtree, with a small waterfall cascading behind. Everywhere we looked, we were reminded of how rugged nature is the greatest classroom, and how formative that experience was for many of our guests who completed Outward Bound’s iconic 26-day course.

When the rain finally came, guests simply pulled out their rain jackets and continued to marvel at the stunning landscape around us, proving there is no such thing as bad weather—only bad clothing.

Thank you again to all the incredible alumni who went outward bound with us today.

Ever wondered what one of our expeditions looks like? Every day, we receive heartwarming feedback from young people who have taken part in our programs and discovered more within themselves than they ever thought possible.

By encouraging young people to step out of their bedrooms, away from screens, and beyond grey urban environments, we see confidence grow, resilience strengthen, and young people truly thrive.

What an epic school camp! The Year 9 students from Strathcona Girls Grammar took on unforgettable expeditions in the stunning Victorian wilderness. From hiking, camping, mountain biking, and paddling, to drawing in nature, sharing campfires, and bush cooking, every moment was packed with adventure.

This tailored program helped the girls build essential life skills such as resilience, communication, teamwork, and self-confidence, while also fostering a deeper connection to the environment and to each other.

And it provided a valuable opportunity to disconnect from screens and step into new challenges within a delightfully different kind of classroom—one shaped by nature, experience, and adventure.

Happy Earth Day! 🌏

At Outward Bound, we’re lucky to spend time in Australia’s beautiful outdoor spaces. These wild and rugged environments are powerful teachers. We’re grateful for the unique animals, ancient trees, and diverse ecosystems we get to experience.

May each of us play a part in protecting our natural heritage and continue to introduce our children to this beautiful land so they may carry on caring for it for generations to come. May they learn the value of working together to protect our stunning planet, because we are all in this together.

Here are a few of our favourite pictures captured on the trail.

Our recent Duke of Ed and Tharwa Expedition programs were a great success. Teens from across the country stepped away from their screens and into real adventure—building friendships, hiking through lush landscapes, camping under the stars, and pushing their limits with exhilarating challenges like abseiling and bush navigation.

Now it’s your teen’s turn to build skills that last a lifetime. OBA’s July school holiday adventures and Duke of Ed programs across ACT and Sydney are now open for enrolments.
