Today marks 110 years since the establishment of RSL Australia — founded by veterans committed to supporting those who served, and their families.

For more than a century, the RSL has continued to stand for mateship, advocacy, remembrance, and support for current and former ADF members across the country.

We honour the legacy of all who have served, and those who continue the work of supporting veterans in communities every day.

On this day in 1916, the Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL Australia) was established by veterans determined to support those who had served, and their families.

For 110 years, the RSL has stood for mateship, compassion, and service, advocating for the wellbeing of current and former Australian Defence Force members and preserving the spirit of service in our nation.

Today, we honour the legacy and ongoing mission of the RSL, and all those who have served Australia with dedication and courage.

This National Volunteer Week, we want to thank all of the volunteers who continue to support veterans and families in our local community and across New South Wales.

Behind every commemorative service, welfare check-in, fundraiser, social catch-up, and community event are volunteers giving their time to support others. Their efforts help create connection, camaraderie, and mateship for veterans, current and ex-serving members, ADF members, and families.

At Swansea RSL Sub-Branch NSW, we know volunteering is about more than giving back — it’s about staying connected, supporting your mates, and continuing to serve the community.

To all of our volunteers and supporters — thank you for your continued service!

The Swansea RSL Sub-Branch NSW would like to extend our immense gratitude to the Veterans MC Central Coast for their incredible support through the Anzac Day raffle.

We are deeply thankful not only for the amazing $1500 raised for our Sub-Branch, but also for the enormous effort, time and dedication that went into organising the raffle and selling tickets in the lead up to Anzac Day. Your commitment and generosity do not go unnoticed and are truly appreciated by all of us.

Support like this helps us continue supporting veterans, commemorating those who served, and maintaining the spirit of mateship and remembrance within our community.

Thank you again to everyone involved and to all those who purchased tickets and supported the raffle. Your support means more than words can express.

Today we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and mates of Special Air Service Regiment soldier Warrant Officer Class Two Lachlan Muddle.

Lachlan served his country with dedication, courage and professionalism through his service in the Australian Army and the Special Air Service Regiment. His commitment to his mates, his service and our nation will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts are with all those grieving this significant loss, including the wider veteran and defence community. May his service and sacrifice always be remembered.

We also acknowledge that news like this can deeply impact many within our veteran community. If you are struggling, feeling overwhelmed, or simply need someone to talk to, please know you are not alone. Reach out to us — we are here to support you.

Lest We Forget.

The Swansea RSL Sub-Branch NSW would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Wallarah Rural Fire Brigade, NSW SES Swansea - Catherine Hill Bay Unit, Karen Phillis from Gloria Jean’s Coffees, and all of the incredible volunteers who helped make our Catherine Hill Bay Anzac Day Service such a meaningful and successful event.

Your support, dedication and community spirit play a vital role in ensuring we can continue to honour and remember our veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

A special acknowledgement to Griz, who for many years has worked tirelessly to ensure the continuation of the Catherine Hill Bay Dawn Service in honour of Roy McDougall. More recently stepping into the role of MC, your commitment and passion for preserving this important tradition is deeply appreciated by our Sub-Branch and the wider community.

A huge thank you to Ana McGarrity and Luke Morris from the Swansea Caves Junior Rugby League Football Club for their stellar efforts organising and cooking the BBQ on Anzac Day to help raise $555 for the Swansea RSL Sub-Branch NSW. Your hard work, time and community spirit are truly appreciated and helped make the day such a success.

We would also like to sincerely thank Scott Brown and Catho Pub for their generous support in allowing the BBQ to be held there and for opening early to accommodate the day’s events. Support like this from our local community means so much and plays an important role in helping us continue to support veterans and commemorate those who served.

Thank you all for standing with us and showing what community spirit is all about.

Lest We Forget.

We’re proud to promote the official opening of the permanent Hunter Veteran and Family Hub in Maitland alongside RSL NSW and RSL LifeCare.

More than just a building, the Hub is a welcoming space where veterans and their families can access support services, connect with the community, and find a sense of belonging and camaraderie close to home.

This important initiative has been made possible through the support of the Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs, RSL NSW, local sub-Branches, and the wider community who helped bring this vision to life.

The Hunter Veteran and Family Hub represents a lasting commitment to supporting the wellbeing of veterans and their families across the region.
