A place for people who love rocks with an interest in lapidary, faceting and jewellery making. Let’s come together and keep the art of lapidary alive 💎

Rocks in our heads? No just on our minds. Many people of all ages and from all walks of life discover in lapidary an ideal life-long hobby/craft/obsession. Lapidary is the art of cutting and polishing precious stones. The Essendon Gem and Lapidary Club was formed in 1969 to provide an opportunity for people with a wide variety of interests in precious and semi-precious gemstones and minerals to meet together to share their knowledge, develop their skills and enjoy the fellowship of those who share those interests.

💎BIG Thanks all who came along to the meetings on Saturday, they were very productive! Minutes will be out soon. It’s been a cracker year so far so can’t wait to see what the year ahead brings us!

Without you guys the club cannot run! 💎 Remember 💎we are a not for profit club and all those keeping the club running do so on a volunteer basis. 💎Weekend Workbench💎

Lil early update today as I won’t be at the club.

We had our first enamel workshop on Thursday which was very informative and so much fun! Thanks to our wonderful Meyet for your generous offering and amazing knowledge! We love you 🥰 More classes coming soon.

💎URGENT COMMITTEE MEMBER CALL OUT

Our lovely treasurer Casey will be resigning from the role this AGM. We rely on volunteers completely to keep the club running! If you have a love of spreadsheets, please get in touch! You will be supported by the assistant treasurer and Casey will be doing a supportive handover. And imagine how good volunteering in your community will look on your resume!

💎Weekend Workbench💎

We’ve been busy bees at the club lately! Getting the kiln working, organising jewellery classes (keep your eye on your email) and cutting lots and lots of rocks! Loads of new members this year and lots of enthusiasm in the cabbing, faceting and jewellery rooms. Oh, and we’re scoping out some places for our next field trip. Speaking of which…

The new Field Trip officer, Anna, will compile the answers and use them to start organising club trips. Meyet, Robyn and Lee gave up half their day yesterday to set up the new jewellery room kiln and test fire some pieces. Successfully fired silver and copper clay (standard and AMC silver copper) and some lovely enamel work.

TBH, the silver copper was only a half win, more practice needed.

Anyways, jewellery room classes including enamelling, metal clay and lost wax coming VERY, VERY SOON.

Make sure your membership is up to date and keep an eye on your email, as going forward, only paid members will be emailed club info and class offerings 💎🌈🪎🩵

Come say hello! CERES Environment Park twilight market, today 12-6pm!

Some great stuff on offer: lucky dips for the kids, cabochons, dichroic glass pendants, pet rock rings, cutlery rings, specimens, fridge magnets, fossils! All extremely cheap and all courtesy of club members!

And hosted by our amazing Meyet and Lyn! We love you guys 💎🩵💎
