ROCKS Ready TO ROCK for 2026/27 AGM

Sunday 16th Aug 2026.
SWR Dragon Boat Club held its AGM Sunday 16th Aug 2026 at the Rocks Club house. (Container).
A Great session on the water first up with 2 boats out and 29 members on board for some McPaddling Adventure up to Spencer’s Bridge!
Both teams had plenty of Paddling Spirit onboard. With Plenty of Grunts and a few groans and long distance paddling the name of the game!
Plenty of Pod work involved kept both boats on the move as both teams rocked it home!
It was Let it Run! Well done Rockstars!
The Rocks morning tea always a treat and recharge hit the spot straight afterwards.
The AGM then got underway with President Ron Young! The Do Ron Ron leading the way!

I must say a very Honorable 4 yr term giving some great enjoyable memories over his time as El Presidento! His time and commitment has been inspirational from Morning tea BBQ’s cooking and setup. Wed Night Raffles, collecting the prizes to the magic square that when it worked dragged in some good money. Regatta set up, container upgrades and always there to make sure the Rocks were ready to Rock! Our Rockin Ronny!
Up next our Treasurer Rhonda McWilliams handing the dollars over after a 11yr stint with the Club as Treasurer! Wow! Show me the Money! The club is looking very stable for the future. Rhonda’s journey just doesn’t stop with counting the Ching Ching but organizing Social Nights etc. Keeping everyone well fed and the club financially honest! Well done Rhonda! You are our McTreasure! Rhonda will be very happy to now sit back in the boat and paddle even Stronger!
A big thank you to all of the 2025/2026 Committee for all your hard work and Comradeship to maintain a stable team on the water and off the water!
Your dedication and commitment is what will keep out Dragons on the Rocks Club flying high and Paddling strong! A BIG thankyou!
Equipment Officer Geoff Cole has been well supported with the Rocksmen with maintaining the 2 Boats …..Rocky! And Goldie! They always look great and well maintained!
The Container, started to look tired, is now in a journey of restoration.

What a Team! Fantastic regatta this weekend at Taree! Well done Manning Dragon boat club! You Rock!
After Saturdays warm up! And Gold 100m Dash under our belt! What a win!
And a Saturday Night team gathering at “The Grill” Taree for a well deserved feed and a couple of quite bevs!
Sunday morning an Early Cool rise! No surprise there! The team Rocked in for some more awesome paddling. With all 4 heat teams making the Grand Finals!
Overal Final Results
1st - Dash for cash 💰 🥇
1st - Opens 20’s 🥇
1st - Opens 10’s mens. 🥇

4th - Womans 20’s
The women rocked hard for a finals contention with 17 onboard. Up amongst it at the finish line for a galliant 4th!
4th - Opens Mixed 20’s also a dragons head in it for a 4th as well 💪😊🐉

Great to see some GOLD again!
Well done to Coach Pat Mc Paddle, our gun sweeps! Megun, Deb, Bernie and Tanya Norman! A fantastic effort for Tanya for her first Sweeps Regatta! You Rockstar!

“I might have had the headache putting everything together this weekend but I’m only one of three coaches, Cary and Deb put the training into the squad which enabled the fantastic results this weekend. AND you paddlers have put the work in which also enabled the results. IT WAS A FANTASTIC CLUB EFFORT ALL ROUND!!!!!

Taree felt tremors today as we Rocked up today!
Perfect weather greeted us with some great competition instore!
The 100m dash for cash up first and we drew heat 3.
Wendys Lucky number!
We flew out of the blocks fast and ripped in hard! Drummer Mandy hanging on for life and kept the team well in beat!
Our virgin sweep Tanya didn’t fail and steered us home for a great rocks win!
💪🤩👍🐉. It was down to best heat times and the Rocks! Bringing home the bling! Ching Ching!
Up next the 1000m heat 3.
The tide turning and a head wind! It didn’t deter these Rockstars who lead all the way to take out the heat!
Unfortunately we didn’t place but certainly gave our best!
A great start and well done Sweep Tanya! Coach Pat was impressed with our first day outing and said we will paddle even better tomz, if we stay off the grog and have an early night!
We all agreed!
Yeah! Nar that won’t happen haha.

Wahnita's Birthday Paddle

Upon the Mighty Macleay's flow!
Where South West dragon paddlers go!
Two dragons waited, keen and bright,
For Wahnita's birthday paddle delight.

There stood Rocky, Sparkling green.
The proudest dragon boat ever seen!
And Goldie, shining gold and bold,
Who loved to boast and tales told.

Rocky grinned, "Today's the day,
We'll lead the birthday paddle away!"

Goldie laughed, "Don't make me roar,
I've heard that speech a thousand times before."

Coach Cary called, "Now find your seats,
Let's trade excuses in for feats!"

The paddlers laughed and took their places,
With eager strokes and smiling faces.

But Wahnita sat with birthday pride,
As dragon boats lined up riverside.
The crew all cheered and gave a shout!

"Happy Birthday!" ringing out.

The paddles dipped, the water sprayed,
And down the Macleay both boats raced.
Rocky surged and Goldie flew,
As dragons love to brag and do.

"Look at me!" cried Rocky!
"The fastest dragon there's ever been!"

Goldie replied with a flashy grin,
"Only because you've got the strongest team!"

The river laughed beneath the sun,
Watching the birthday rivalry run.
But every stroke and every mile
Was made with friendship all the while.

For Wahnita brings her cheerful way
To every paddle, every day.

Through sunshine bright and morning chill,
She turns up smiling, paddling still.

So here's to Wahnita, three cheers and more!

May calm seas meet your paddle blade,
May lifelong friendships still be made.

May Rocky roar and Goldie gleam,
May South West Dragon Boat Club dream.

And may the Mighty Macleay say,

"Happy Birthday, Wahnita,
Have a wonderful paddling day!"

What a Great day! Sunday!
A Day of Worship!
A Day of Friendship!
A Day of a belonging, to strive and have fun!
Two Boats hit the water today!
Goldie had a lot of Newbee’s aboard!
It was a coaches boat!
With Deb and Cary giving them the drive!
With motivation to bring them alive!
Bernie as the Sweep
Kept them on track as they all powered up!

In Rocky, the boat of green!
Up front they were taking water on!
Stevo moved back to join the good wife Wendo,
What a hoot!
Robin Rocked on forward, to lead the way,
With Kellie beside her! Damn we were rocking it! No waves!
The pace was hot the team dug in,
The boat took off with Tanya Sweep, a full boat!
Powerful and Strong!

It was a perfect day as the Sun shone on!
The eagles flew high, the Pelicans just came in to glide!
The boats headed up Spencers creek!
The Team paddling strong!
Plenty of race starts, and a 1k try out.
Put everyone to their pace!

Keeping the boats tempo all in tune and keen!

We headed back to hit the Macleay!
Another great adventure!
What an awesome day!

So we heading in to the shore!
The coach on Rocky! Gave a mighty roar!
Three Cheers! To us!
To the Sweeps and Strokes!
And everyone on board!
What can I say! “YOU ALL ROCK!
But wait! Who’s that with Paint brush in hand!
It’s DOUGIE! Giving the container some attention!
I think he’s gunna need a bigger Paint brush!
There’s a lot of rust!

In a gesture of appreciation for a grant that enabled us to purchase a second boat, South West Rocks Dragon Boat Club extended an invitation to Mayor Kinne Ring and Councillors Julie Coburn and Noel Selby recently.
The trio accepted graciously and joined Dragons on the Rocks for a leisurely paddle on the mighty Macleay River last Sunday.
